Bug with Media Server 1.0.165
« on: April 18, 2003, 06:58:52 am »

Before I upgraded to MC9 .149, I had my TIVO playing internet streaming playlists with no problem.

Now, even with .154 and the above listed Media Server, I cannot get ANY streaming Internet playlist working at all!  >:(

When I go to play, an error comes up on TIVO of "There was a problem connecting to the server. Error#(1-1-5)"

I can play Music files with no problem. I have tried running this now with Tivo Desktop and Beacon turned on and off. It was working fine before I upgraded to .149

Is there a fix in site?  ?

Thanks!

Try the next build, I found a bug that might have caused this.

Well, I have installed MC9.155 and the Streaming to the TIVO is still present. Here is the deal....

Going to Shoutcast.com and saving one of the Play Lists to a .pls file gives something like this....

[playlist]
numberofentries=4
File1=http://205.188.209.193:80/stream/1040
Title1=(#1 - 450/5834) CLUB 977 The 80's Channel (HIGH BANDWIDTH)
Length1=-1
File2=http://64.236.34.141:80/stream/1040
Title2=(#2 - 922/11778) CLUB 977 The 80's Channel (HIGH BANDWIDTH)
Length2=-1
File3=http://152.163.134.164:80/stream/1040
Title3=(#3 - 256/2821) CLUB 977 The 80's Channel (HIGH BANDWIDTH)
Length3=-1
File4=http://205.188.234.66:8010
Title4=(#4 - 198/200) CLUB 977 The 80's Channel (HIGH BANDWIDTH)
Length4=-1
Version=2

Before MC9.149, if you selected that Playlist from the TIVO, the system would bypass the streams it cannot play (apparantly the ones with /stream/xxxxx in them) and find one that will play.

Now, after version .149, if you try to play something with /stream/xxxxx listed in the URL, Media Server gives the error on the tivo ERROR 1-1-5.

If I want to play a Playlist, and there are multiple streams to choose from, all I care about is pressing Play on the TIVO and the server will find an appropriate stream and give me music. Otherwise, the server should open the stream, buffer the incoming info then re-stream to the TIVO - The TIVO should not care what the URL is, have the SERVER do the streaming, just like it does for regular MP3 files on the computer in the first place.

Hopefully someone can resolve this, otherwise I will have to go back to MC9.147 and forget updates as I can get the TIVO desktop to give me multiple streams and I will just have to manually select one that does not have /stream/xxxxx in the URL.

JoeInLenexa,

I was able to reproduce the problem you describe, with the latest J River software - MC 9.0.155 and MS 1.0.166.

Just to be clear, I am able to play individual streams - the ones with URLs TiVo can grok - but I cannot play the playlist in your example.

Q: Have you tried navigating into the playlist as a folder, and individually selecting the 4th URL? (the one without /stream in the path)

I generated the same playlist from SHOUTCast. I got the 1-1-5 error when I selected the playlist. Then I navigated right into the playlist as a folder, and clicked on the URLs individually. None of the 4 URLs worked.

If I understand correctly, TiVo issues this 1-1-5 error when it sees an HTTP 404 reply ("resource not found"). So maybe this is just a case of the known problem in the TiVo client. I'm wondering if TiVo can't handle that URL any better than the others. But then I wonder, how were you able to play this list before?

To confuse matters further, I dragged & dropped a playlist entry - one that TiVo can play - into the playlist that wasn't working. Now when I click on the playlist, it acts only as a folder; TiVo does not attempt to play it.  ?
