Shield, why can some load libraries and others not?
« on: August 19, 2020, 07:51:31 am »

I've posted before about my inability to load my library on my Shield Pro. It simply rotates never loading anything even after 30 minutes. I see others here mention they have "thousands" of movies and have been able to load their library on Shield.

Why am I having issues? What could I be doing wrong? Is there a size limit?  My Music library is quite large and so is my video library but it seems that others also have large libraries and are successful. I really want to  use JRiver but am forced to use PLex for Videos.

Good questions. I should have thought to include that info.

My media is all on a Synology 1915+ NAS. I am trying to load a JRiver Server running on another computer I use in another room. I connect to this jr servers library from several other devices using the Access Key.

I'm not at home so I can't tell you which version of the JR app on my shield. But the shield was newly installed about 4 weeks ago and so was the jr app.

I've been meaning to ask the same thing. PC were updated to .103 which MC finds as the latest stable version. Android to the latest available at the time(I think .106). My Shield can find my library on this computer that I use for testing but never finds my main library on my HTPC. The Shield even shows up on my HTPC.

I have restarted all devices. Turned off password protection on the servers. I have uninstalled/re-installed on the Shield. I haven't really cared but since Dolby Vision support in MKV's is happening and the Shield should support it I would like to get it working at some point.

edit: I see Android v .108 was added 2 days ago. I will update and try again.

I just update the app on my Shield. No improvement. Still spins and says loading library for 10 minutes now. Don’t know what else to try.

Any other suggestions I can try? I'd really like to use it on my Shield!

It just doesn't work? Do I need to wait for another update? Is my library too big?

We just don't know what the problem is yet. It's very difficult to reproduce. Loading a library works for me about 90% of the time. And even when it does hang, if I back out and try again, it usually works the next time. I don't think the size of library is the issue, but you would need to specify the size. I just successfully loaded a library with over 150,000 files. It only took a few seconds.

Would anyone with this issue be willing to create a library back-up of the server and e-mail it to brad at jriver so I can test?

From the library server instance of Media Center, go to File -> Library -> Backup Library... Save it somewhere and then attach that file to an e-mail.

I got both now. The first one showed up when the second one did.
