Playback Problem
« on: August 21, 2020, 01:43:42 am »

Every time when I try to play videos (m4v, mkv, bdmv tried), MediaCenter said adding required components and then it will say something went wrong with playback. I have tried uninstalling the antivirus so it should not be the cause. I also tried to switch from Red October Standard to Windows merit based under the video mode in the settings and the videos played with no issues. I saw high network usage when MediaCenter tried to download the plugins so it should not be a firewall issue. It seems that the problem is related to the installation of plugins.

Without AV ... Windows Defender kicks in

read this https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,114101.0.html

while in your case Windows firewall is blocking MC from downloading required comonents ... you should configure whole Defender as the post suggested and not just firewall

Also I'd double check the Windows Firewall - try the instructions a user posted here to fix a different issue caused by Windows Firewall blocking it.

Jim/Matt, this might be a good feature to add to MC27, a feature with a button that when pressed tests the downloading of components and gives the user an error message saying it's blocked by a firewall if it fails. It could be useful when troubleshooting issues like this. Also having 1) a download progress bar for components and 2) some sort of message when downloading components fails might be useful too, as it could help users in diagnosing and fixing connection/firewall issues on their own instead of posting on the forums for support.

I guess when I do the new version of the taming Windows Defender tutorial I should also do a second one for the Windows Firewall? :P
