Underscores in filenames
« on: April 16, 2003, 08:33:42 pm »

What magic do I have to work to have MC put underscores in the directory and filenames for ripping, recording, or renaming files from properties?

No one knows if MC can do this or not?  Or how?

I'm not sure I understand.

You can setup any naming rules you like in Options.

Like:

C:\___I_LIKE_UNDERSCORES____\___ARTIST___\___ALBUM___\___NAME___.mp3

Does that help at all?

Maybe he/she wants MC to automagically replace all spaces in his fields (album, artist, etc) with underscores when using Rename From Properties, ripping and recording (just in the filename...not update the MC database fields per se).

That is correct, he/she does want that!

For existing files, you can use the Find & Replace tool on your filename field.

For new files, you can set up the filenaming rules to use underscores.

Out of curiousity, is there some reason to do this or is it just liking the way it looks?

You mean just do a search for " " and replace it with "_"?  That should work.

Where is this set up?  In the dialog box and in the help file, there is no mention of enabling underscores.  I don't want it to look like "interpol_-_turn on the bright lights" but "interpol_-_turn_on_the_bright_lights."

All of my mp3s are stored on a Unix server and it's easier to deal with files without spaces.
