WDM Driver still showing as JRiver Media Centre 25
« on: September 17, 2020, 11:47:29 am »

I've just upgraded from MC26 to MC27 but the WDM Driver still showing as JRiver Media Centre 25. I tried resetting it in MC 27's options, but do I need to download the driver separately - or have I got the latest version?

Also, I've only just started looking at this, but am I right in thinking that using the WDM driver allows me to stream Amazon Music, Qobuz, etc. through MC thus allowing me to bypassing all Windows mixer, etc. interference?

Also, you can rename the driver via the "Sound Settings > Device Properties" dialogue. Mine now shows in Windows as "JRiver Media Center 27 (JRiver Media Center 25)". But that makes no difference to the functionality.

Yes, as long as the source can play in Exclusive Mode, for example WASAPI Exclusive Mode, then the JRiver WDM Driver will take what it is given and the Windows Mixer will not be involved.

If the source plays in Shared Mode, then you need to set the format you want in the WDM Driver, and that will be input to MC. See image. In Shared Mode Windows Audio will get involved in the "Source -> JRiver WDM Driver" part of the Audio Path, and will remix to the format specified in the WDM Driver as required. i.e.
"Source -> Windows Mixer remixes to the format specified in the JRiver WDM Driver Shared Mode properties -> JRiver WDM Driver"

Thanks both, that's really helpful - and solves my streaming problems.  I've renamed the driver and will read through the WDM Driver Wiki.
