MS/TiVo - Information Dialogue Box?
« on: April 16, 2003, 07:22:16 pm »

Hey,

I just downloaded v9.052 and installed.  Now, when I select a song on TiVo and push play, an information dialogue box telling me what song is requested pops up on my PC and no music plays on TiVo.  If I select OK on the PC before TiVo times out, the music starts.  Is there a way to turn off this "feature"?

I'm using Support TiVo HMO on port 80 Mode due to the fact that I'm also serving tunes to another PC upstairs.  MC could not find the Media Server if I selected the port 8080 (with beacon on port 2190 mode.  Thoughts?

Thanks.

Hi Marc,

Not many thoughts, but it's late at night.

Switch to port 8080 with beacon. It doesn't matter if you are sharing with another PC (though make sure you don't use 8080 for your sharing port there).

Make sure you are running TiVo's beacon, though this shouldn't matter too much.

If all else fails, copy-n-paste the exact text of the dialog box, and I'll search to find out where it is coming from.

I haven't been able to get the 8080 (with beacon on 2190) to work with version 9.0.152.  It was working for me on 9.0.149 but not anymore for some reason.  I have to manually specify the IP address on the Tivo (which is kind of a drag because I use dynamic addresses).

Hi John,

Well, I tried to resolve the problem and wound up with another issue.  First, I tried to deinstall/reinstall to the Last Know Good Version (forty-eight), but the database would have none of it.  So, I reinstalled v52 and now receive another message in the Media Center status window:
Quote
04/17/03 04:12:07 - sharer starting
04/17/03 04:12:07 - Initializing server.
04/17/03 04:12:09 - Server initialized
04/17/03 04:12:09 - sharer ready to accept connections
04/17/03 04:12:09 - Started auto response thread on port 5556.
04/17/03 04:13:05 - received a connection
04/17/03 04:13:05 - ready for another connection
04/17/03 04:13:05 - private sharing thread started
04/17/03 04:13:05 - Client tried to download an unsupported file type.
04/17/03 04:13:05 - sharing thread exiting

?  Now I can't get TiVo to connect at all using any method.  And, when I stop sharing the Media Server, I see the following:
Quote
04/17/03 04:19:55 - bad port <>
04/17/03 04:19:55 - tcp_write failed error=10038
04/17/03 04:19:55 - bad version
04/17/03 04:19:57 - Stopped auto response thread.

Hmmm...  Any thoughts?

Try uninstalling 9.0.152 and installing 9.0.150 instead.  I think there is a bug in any version higher than that.

I opened a thread on this issue at http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=beta;action=display;num=1050560073

It works OK here if I use the third option on the TiVo settings page in Media Server.  I'll test some more.

Are you using the FINAL version (1.0) of the TiVo HMO PC software?  Don't use beta software -- it may not work.

Are you playing MP3 songs?  If you're using WMA or another format on your server, that will require conversion and maybe we've introduced a bug there.  I'm playing an MP3.

If there is a problem, I can't find it ....yet.

It is possible that there is a timing issue.  Try setting Media Server to not start automatically.  Then reboot.  Then start it manually.

Where is the error message coming from on the PC?  Any idea?

I'm closing this thread now.  For TiVo HMO problems, please use the main TiVo thread here:

Thanks.
