Has anyone this problem too?
« on: April 08, 2003, 05:01:45 am »

I'm not sure if it's a general MC-bug, so I'll put it in this thread.

It happens regularly that when I pause (not stop, but pause) a song and some time later (not withing 5 seconds - that's no problem; more like 1 minute or more) I want to play it again, MC just freezes. Getting rid of this freezed MC isn't easy either: the way I do it is by rightclicking the MC-icon in the taskbar and choosing Close. This I have to do THREE times before it actually closes.
It happens on my W2K-p.c. as well as on my XP-computer. The latter gives a bugreport, which I include:

============
szAppName : Media Jukebox.exe     szAppVer : 9.0.137.0     szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0     offset : 00000000
==============

The fact that I have this on 2 different machines with different Windows makes me think it's a bug.

But does anyone else have this problem too?

I've seen this posted before but I've never seen the problem.

Over the weekend, I tried again to reproduce it and could not.  I paused playback on XP Home for more than two hours without a problem.

Please post more about what other software you're running (other music software, for example) and what types of files you play -- MP3, Ogg Vorbis, MPC....

Are you running any plug-ins?  DFX, for example?

Visualizations?

Try simplifying your system to see if you can find what it's related to.

Ah, Jim, maybe it's my McAfee anti-virus software.
I'll try that and switching off the DFX. I don't use other music-programs; I only use mp3's and no visualizations.

You'll hear from me

Sorry Jim: disabling the anti-virussoftware didn't help.
I've got no DSP on. No visualizations. Just mp3's.

Any other thoughts?

Will probably not help very much, but I have always had this problem... and I'm with MJ8, not MC9 yet.

Pausing the play and trying to resume after a while (1 minute or so) results in MJ freezing completely. Then, I have to push stop 2 or 3 times and I'm able to push play again.

The only "special" thing is that all my music is in an external Firewire HD.

Regards,

Pushing the Stop-button doesn't work with me: MC's just frozen completely.

My music is on an internal IDE-disc.

This is usually an audio card (or card driver) problem, and is possibly associated with buffer settings. I'd look in to those areas first.

Posting your info PLUS the audio card data may help to define this problem.

I agree that it could be a sound card problem.

Try also changing Media Center's playback options.  Direct Sound vs. Wave Out, for example.
