Trying to get back to JRiver
« on: October 11, 2020, 09:10:52 am »

I had abandoned JRiver some time back but then discovered they were still taking money from my Amex every month and Amex will not stop it. There is no way to contact them except this public forum to sort out these matters.

So I decided to try JRiver again. I download the latest version which I assume I am entitled to since I am paying every month but apparently not and impossible to recover my password or login because I have to download the version I am entitled to. Why am I paying every month if I can't get the latest version.

I hope I will get a response from JRiver to explain and unless it is good I will instruct them to stop taking my money or failing that I will shut down my AMEX account.

Uhhh, JRiver doesn't offer any services that require monthly payments or anything like that. JRiver only has one time payments for Media Center licenses (and upgrades to licenses) and hardware like the Id but there shouldn't be any sort of recurring monthly charges.

You might want to contact AMEX and see if you can get a new card with card number. If the monthly charges are going through PayPal, log into your PayPal account find any references to subscriptions and cancel them. But yeah, something very wrong is happening there.

You have a Mac License for MC20.  I've just re-sent it.  Here's how to download MC20 and restore your license:
https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Restoring_a_License

If you donated to Cloudplay, you could have set up a recurring charge yourself.

If you want to send me details of the amount and frequency, I can try to help.  I'm jimh at jriver.

Well, you learn something every day! The charge is from Digital River who I have never heard of and as I get mail from J River I just assumed it was the same. Turns out it was my Adobe subscription. I owe you one Jim so I will get the new JRiver. Can I upgrade or do I need to buy a new license?
Cheers

Yes.  Check your spam folder.  I've just re-sent it.  You can do this yourself from our Restore Page.

Here's how to upgrade at a discount:

Jim,
It looks like I did receive your message but it is the same message I get when I try to restore myself requiring me to load MC 20 (see below). I have downloaded MC20 but it won't load because "Media Center 20.app cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified." so I cannot recover the license that way. Since I want to upgrade it does not seem necessary to load MC 20 anyway.
Paul

You must first install the correct version of JRiver Media Center, and then restore your license.
JRiver Media Center is available here:  https://www.jriver.com/download.html
Older versions are here:  https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Old_Versions
Then Restore Your License

You can upgrade without installing MC20.  Just follow the directions in the link above.
