Mutiple Formats In Same Folder
« on: October 24, 2020, 11:37:18 am »

How do I get tracks in multiple formats, e.g., FLAC & MP3, in the same folder to import?

Set the File Types that MC should import using Auto Import to include both. https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Auto-Import#Folder_Settings

Expand the File Type Audio group for the folder and check that FLAC and MP3 are selected. Or all Audio File Types, if that makes more sense to you.

Similar settings with importing a single folder.
Drag & Drop should already import all File Types, I think. https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Import#Drag_and_Drop_and_Shell_Integration

FWIW, I like to have control over what is being imported so I do not use AUTO IMPORT.

How do I set FILE TYPES if using LIBRARY > FILE IMPORT > SINGLE??

Were the MP3s previously imported and then removed?

Because if so, MC may refuse to import them. This is an option in Auto-Import. I'm not sure if the setting there impacts the Single-Folder import, but you can check the Removed Items database and remove them from it (which will then treat them as "new"):

No files have always been in the folder but MC has not imported them into Library even with multiple tries?!

I HAVE deleted the folder and re-imported it several times with no success.

I didn't say delete the folder.

Remove the files from the Removed Items Database. Look at the thread I linked to for instructions on how to access it.

Also, are you SURE the files aren't imported? They could be imported and "stacked" with the FLAC copies, or otherwise hidden from your View.

Pretty sure...folder has 20 files, 17 FLAC & 3 MP3.  Only the FLAC show in the track listing.  The MP3s ARE versions of a FLAC track BUT they have different file names and track numbers in the folder.

Under the left Navigation Tree, go to "Drives & Devices > Explorer" then with the Mode drop-down list at the top set to "All files" drill down to the folder you are talking about.

Both the FLAC and MP3 files should be displayed.

Now change the Mode to "Only file in library". Do the MP3 files disappear from the View?

If they disappear they have not been imported.
If they do not disappear they have been imported, and they just aren't showing in the View you were using in the discussion above.

How would you like to proceed? Fix the View you were using, or import the files?

Attached is screen shot with drill-down showing both FLAC and MP3.  However, do not see mode where I can change to "Only file in library"?

And, note, since they are tagged with Artist = Melody Gardot, then that's where they'll show up in your Library, not under Van Halen.

If that is incorrect, you can fix it right there in that View.

Good thing it wasn't right in front of my eyes!
Reminds me of the old joke... How do you hide an elephant in a cherry tree?  Give him red polka dot sneakers!   ;D

Both FLAC and MP3 files loaded now after fixing the "Melody..." oops.  Probably would never have found the error without your method of auditing the files and fixing right there.  Not sure how the mis-tag occurred.  Appreciate the new tool for my toolbox.

My sincere thanks for the tutelage.

Be safe, stay well!

Yup. That same tool is also useful for importing file types that MC would otherwise ignore (those types not available in the Import wizard). Select them, and click Import into Library, and MC will import them no matter what they are.

You can, of course, modify the Import Wizard's file types list, but often for one-offs, it is simpler to just do it there.

Glad you got it sorted!

Oh, and PS: If you ever need to do that again, instead of opening Drives & Devices manually and drilling down to find the folder in question, you can simply right-click on the files and choose Locate > On Disk (inside Media Center) and it'll take you there lickety-split.

My Oops as well, because I didn't take note that you were still on MC25. MC27 has a slightly different layout and a bit more functionality for that screen.

But you got there.  :D

That is a good tip. I almost never want to use MC Explorer that way, so never think of doing that. I shall have to remember in future.
