Hi, Last week I was using Media Center 27 to convert a large number of Flac files to MP3 format but every time I tried to convert the files it would fail. I had a friend look at the problem for me that happened to be there that knows more about computers and things than I do. He said that my firewall is blocking Media Center 27 from internet access. So I allowed access to see if that was the problem and that's what it was. He messed around with my computer a bit then told me that I might have a security problem that Media Center 27 is linking with the internet possibly sending a copy of my conversions out to the internet when I do a conversion. He said he would have to run programs to find out for sure. So then I tried Media Center 26  with no internet access and it worked fine no problem converting files. I don't really know whats up with this but I don't let Media Center have internet access anymore. I use a free audio converter for conversions now. I would like to know for sure that using Media Center is secure before I allow internet access again.

The first time you do something with a new version MC may have to download components

Yes. That's exactly what it is. MC doesn't ship with the LAME and FLAC encoders included in the install, but downloads them on the fly the first time they are used.

It does this with a number of "optional" open-source components including: Chromium (if you use that as the web rendering engine), various video encoders and decoders, and the audio encoders.

PS. I'll note, since it also doesn't encrypt this traffic, if your computer-savvy friend was really good, they could have just looked at the traffic it was sending/receiving and seen that it was benign.

Also if Media Network is enabled, it'll ping the server so you'll be able to use your access key for JRemote, Panel, Gizmo, MC as a client, etc. unless you go the direct IP address connect method.
