More specifically it won't modify the audio data itself within the files at all. Like Jim said it only changes the metadata (tag) of the files in this case. Media Center will read the metadata from the tag and apply volume leveling within the app itself, so it's not a permanent change (other than writing to the metadata/tag of the file).

After doing Audio Analysis enabling and using the Volume Leveling + Adaptive Volume features in DSP Studio would be recommended. :)

Personally, I use Volume Leveling, but not adaptive volume.

I only use adaptive volume in the rare instances when I'm watching war or sci-fi movies late at night.

They both serve separate, but good purposes.
