MC not importing all files from a folder?
« on: December 07, 2020, 01:39:32 am »

I’ve encountered a bit of a strange problem.  I’ve recently updated a music folder with higher resolution files.  As is my usual procedure I deleted the folder from MC and the hard drive also.  I copied the new folder and preformed an import.  However the import missed the first song.  Of note, this song was in a playlist...

I deleted and restored the original files but MC still refuses to recognize the first song in the folder.  Honestly I am a bit baffled at the point.  Any suggestions?

Media Center 27.0.37 running under the latest Debian OS

Have you tried to drag the file from a file browser into MC? This used to work for me before when certain files that I had previously imported and then removed from the library wouldn't import.
I have to mention, tough, that my media are on a Synology NAS and I am running MC either on MacOS or in the Linux version in docker on the NAS.
Also, make sure the file is not corrupted in any way. I usually try to play it with another service (DS Audio, in my case).

Thanks so much for the prompt suggestion!   Not to appear completely ignorant... however, where exactly does one “drop” the file in MC?  I’ve tried several different places but am pretty sure I am not doing it right.

Right now I think that perhaps this is a strange bug because the only file effected was one that was residing in a playlist.

But thanks to your suggestion I did find a workaround.  File -> Open Media File and then whilst MC is playing the file, right click and Send To Playlist.  This restored the file in its correct place...

Thanks again,  the support in this forum is awesome! 😊

You are most welcome.
For the future, in standard view, there should be a bottom panel with all the tracks listed. You can drop a file from a file browser (I use MacOS Finder or PathFinder) straight into this track list. You need to make sure that the view settings are such that the file is actually shown. When you drag the file there, a green icon with a "+" inside should appear until you release the mouse button and drop the file. If you can't find it in the track list it could be that it's tags are different from what you expect and you might have to search for it and change the tags to your liking.
