Final Requests
« on: April 13, 2003, 11:40:54 am »

OK I have to admit, I put away MC for a little while because of all the bugs, but I have since downloaded the last few releases and I am VERY impressed.  Thank you very much for creating such an excellent product.

However, I have a couple final requests.

First off (I've mentioned this once before), can there be an option to disable ReplayGain on files that are not analyzed for it (such as streaming radio, audio CDs, etc.)?  I usually have ReplayGain set at a fixed level of +8, and when playing files not analyzed, they are way too loud and distorted.

Another question (asked way back and told it would be added) is an option to normalize tracks when burning to a CD in some form or another using a peak value.  When I burn a CD (even with the Automatic Based On Playlist ReplayGain option) the sound is considerably lower than on standard audio CDs.

Finally, in the older versions, when browsing by artist, the tracks would be sorted alphabetically until the album was selected, then they would be sorted by track no.  Now in the newest release (9.0.148) they are always sorted by track no., unless I choose artist, in which case I have to switch back for album view.

Again, thanks for such a great product, and I'd appreciate it soooo much if these features could be implemented.

You can do this by setting up different zones using the Zone Manager (click on the button at the lower right of the playback controls to find the Zone options) and selecting what playback options you want enabled for each zone. This won't switch RG of automatically, but it makes it easy to switch between different playback setups with a mouse click or two.

I also posted about this recently. Because of the way the new "sticky" sorting works, this feature is most likely gone for good.

Thank you for the information.  The Replay Gain thing I can live with, but the track sorting, is there any possible way that can be implemented back into the program?  That was one of the many features I loved about MC that sets it apart from all the other programs out there.  Please!!! :-)  Thanks again.
