27.0.39 (12/10/2020)

0. NOTE: This is the Native Screen rendering build.
1. Changed: When moving cover art to a new folder, a confirmation is shown before moving all the files.
2. NEW: The statusbar is updated from a thread so blocking to access a drive spinning up won't block the program.
3. Changed: Updated Greek translation (thanks Panagiotis).
4. Changed: The cover art path is not validated until it is used, so having it on a non-spinning drive will not spin the drive up just viewing the library.
5. Fixed: Possible deadlock when starting to play a DMS TV channel.
6. Fixed: The track info processor was not handling all the formats properly since the parenthesis addition.
7. Fixed: Text vertical alignment is properly maintained in nested tags.
8. Changed: Updated German translation file (thanks Bytestar).
9. Changed: Equalizer presets are sorted by name (instead of randomly).
10. Changed: When shuffling a set of tracks all by the same artist, the album will be used to maximize the shuffle instead of the artist.
11. Fixed: Seeking to end of file in video playback sometimes was ignored.
12. NEW: Recording works on DMS Tuner channels.
13. Changed: When renaming a library, if you rename the active library, the name used for backups will also be updated.
14. Fixed: When playing a DMS TV channel, the tuner status got stuck at "Initializing..."
15. Fixed: Media Center would not display JPEG images with minor defects (often in metadata tags).
16. Changed: Video file conversion could crash.
17. Changed: Made digital TV code more robust against bad data.
18. Changed: Track info markers for TrackInfo_Insert will try to better handle fields with parenthesis in the name.
19. Changed: Updated Czech translation (thanks Jan Boháč!).
20. Fixed: A possible crash when decoding a corrupt APE file.
21. Fixed: DSD output could crackle in the last builds.
22. Fixed: Italian had the same translation for skin and theme, so it caused Theater View options to misbehave.
23. Changed: Made the Reporter view respond to F5 and refresh.
24. Fixed: APE decoding could leak.
25. Changed: When MC fails to get DMS TV channels using the device's "urn:schemas-upnp-org:service:ContentDirectory" service, an alternative method of using a channel lineup JSON file (if available) will be attempted.

27.0.35 (11/22/2020)

0. NOTE: This is the EXPERIMENTAL Native screen rendering build.
1. Fixed: Window placement when dragging the main window on mouse button release.
2. NEW: Fast Forwarding and Rewinding are now supported for Streaming (DMS) TV tuners.
3. Changed: Changed the read caching behavior of the thumbnail database to reduce memory consumption and improve performance with large databases.
4. Fixed: When time-shifting session on a DMS tuner ended, an empty folder was left undeleted.
5. NEW: The column presets menu shows names of previous saves for quick overwrite (instead of requiring entering the name).
6. NEW: The Rename, Move & Copy presets menu shows names of previous saves for quick overwrite (instead of requiring entering the name).
7. Changed: The program can close if Analyze Audio is showing but not processing.
8. Fixed: If a tool was running at shutdown, it would message and not allow shutdown, but the tray icon would go away anyway.
9. Changed: Error checking is added when loading certain TV settings to avoid crashes.
10. NEW: Added the MCWS call GetLinkExpanded to get a link expanded set of files.
11. Changed: Updated German translation file (thanks Stefan).
12. Changed: Tooltips are allowed to cover the auto-complete tooltip if they would otherwise go off the screen.
13. Changed: MC will be more responsive at startup when it processes TV recording actions.
14. Changed: The confirmation for clearing Playing Now will no longer say it will stop if playback is already stopped.
15. Changed: The lock and unlock playlist button are in the same spot, so doing a slow double click in the area will not be disruptive.
16. Changed: Ran all the translations through the tool to update to the latest strings from the source code.
17. Fixed: When resuming normal play from FF/REW on a time-shifting TV tuner, the OSD paused status could be wrong.
18. Changed: Tag dump in the Tag Action Window no longer tries to analyze video files (it could be slow and rarely returned anything).
19. Changed: Media Keys are processed on the main thread.
20. Fixed: Potential instability resulting from UI functions on background threads.
21. Changed: Compiled with Xcode 12.1

27.0.32 (11/13/2020)

0. NOTE: This is the EXPERIMENTAL Native screen rendering build.
1. Fixed: Drag/Drop of views on retina screens.
2. Changed: Resetting the window positions will also reset the main program position.
3. Changed: Clearing Playing Now on a remote zone will work a little better.
4. Changed: Stopping remote zones would not actually take effect before returning so the state could be incorrect.
5. NEW: Made the View > Load / Save View menu have the previous save names so you can just overwrite without entering the name.
6. Changed: When the playback state changes in remote zones, the playback engine will be notified right away (instead of waiting to know).

27.0.31 (11/6/2020)

0. NOTE: This is the EXPERIMENTAL Native screen rendering build.
1. Fixed: VST3 Plugin window issue.
2. Fixed: HEIF images were not rotated properly.
3. Changed: Made the plugin install dialog list both DLL and VST3 in the same selection (instead of requiring switching).
4. Changed: When playing a DMS TV channel with a streaming tuner, time-shifting will observer user configured time-shifting limit, so that disk space usage will not grow indefinitely.

27.0.30 (11/5/2020)

0. NOTE: This is the EXPERIMENTAL Native screen rendering build.
1. Changed: Skins without a Template in the Action Window would not blink.
2. Changed: The player no longer restores a minimized window when switching videos.
3. Changed: The import window only blinks if the library is empty.
4. Changed: The Category dialog defaults to taller so the expression type fits.
5. NEW: VST3 plugin support implemented.

0. NOTE: This is the EXPERIMENTAL Native screen rendering build.

8. Changed: Updated German translation file (thanks Bytestar).
9. Fixed: Erratic window positioning.

3. Fixed: The Date (release) MP3 tag could get written over and over.

8. Fixed: APE encoding at 8-bit would fail on high channel count files.

27.0.26 (10/26/2020)

0. NOTE: This is the EXPERIMENTAL Native screen rendering build.
1. Fixed: Redrawing subrects wasn't working properly greatly hampering performance on dynamic display elements (spectrum analyzer, progress bar..)

5. Fixed: Fixed a possible crash changing rating and backing up with the mouse.
6. Fixed: Tag writing to MP4 files could fail in some cases.

9. Changed: Updated Norwegian translation (thanks Øistein).
10. Changed: Updated Greek translation (thanks Panagiotis).

0. NOTE: This is the EXPERIMENTAL Native screen rendering build.

4. Changed: Adjusted logging for DLNA TV device discovery.
5. Changed: When building playlists for a handheld using relative paths, if nothing is in common, it will use dots in the path to start at the root then build the path (may make Android devices work better).
6. Changed: Updated Italian translation (thanks matteo e massimo).4. Optimized: EPG loading (including SiliconDust, MC2XML, XMLTV, and Perc Data modes) is significantly faster.
7. Optimized: Processing TV for EPG loading and the like runs less often.

1. NEW: Beta build with native screen drawing. Please report issues with this!
2. Changed: Enabled automatic retry in 30 to 60 minutes of SiliconDust EPG loading so that we would not miss a daily reloading due to not having discovered the DLNA tuners yet.

11. Changed: MC will reload TV channel logos during EPG loading (if EPG data file contains the logo images) if previous image file is missing.
12. NEW: During SiliconDust EPG setup MC will detect whether DLNA is enabled.  If not, MC will offer to display Media Network options page.

15. NEW: Added the playlist format "M3U (relative paths, forward slashes)" to handheld upload.
16. Changed: Increased the pause on click timer to hopefully avoid fighting with double-click.
17. Changed: Slovak translation updated (thanks Peter Lukac).

19. Fixed: MP4 video files will more reliably use the video engine to fill in missing metadata.
20. Fixed: SiliconDust EPG re-loading could randomly be skipped.
21. NEW: Links to websites (that start with http:// or https://) in list controls will be active links now.
22. Changed: Lists will set the cursor in some cases like hoovering over the rating or a link.
23. Changed: On the "Schedule Guide Reloading" window, the "Next Load" column will include a date, instead of just time.
24. Fixed: SiliconDust EPG repeat loading time could be wrong.
25. Fixed: WAV files with a zero sample rate could crash (now they are rejected).
26. NEW: TV EPG loading modes will have their own start time settings so users can configure multiple modes to start at different time of the day.
27. Fixed: Background EPG loading threads could be unnecessarily created in rare cases even though no EPG loading mode was scheduled to start at the time.

27.0.15 (9/21/2020)

1. Changed: Video pause will fire the OSD when in full screen mode now.
2. Changed: MC will query HDHomeRun devices for the number of tuners, instead of using hard-coded values, for a more accurate count.
3. NEW: The text shown in Theater View's playing now can be customized in Options > Theater View > Advanced > Expression for Playing Now.
4. Changed: MC will classify a show as "movie" if the XMLTV puts it in a category of "Television movie" or "Cinema movie".

12. Changed: Panel - Jump to playing now when playing video files.
13. NEW: Left clicking a playing video will toggle the pause state.
14. NEW: SiliconDust EPG is added to TV setup EPG options for manual setup.

Just installed today version 27.0.39 on MAC OS 11.0.1 and playback advances silent with sporadic crackles. I'm using the same configuration as used in JR26 which plays perfectly. My DAC has an USB interface and the configuration of JR is pretty standard.

Try disabling integer mode in MC27.

It sounds like you might be using apps from Rogue Amoeba. Soundsource and Airfoil in particular cause this problem. They've issued updates to both apps which solves the problem. Just update to the newest version.

This update appeared in Media Center and it seems to be a native version that consumes a lot of resources. Isn't there a flipped version until it is optimized?

Would you please add information about how to reproduce what you are seeing?
There shouldn't be any difference in resource usage with the native screen version.

I was simply using version 27.0.22 which is flipped and consumes 11% of the processor and the warning that there was a new version available jumped out. I downloaded it from JRiver and saw that it is the native version and that my processor is between 27% usage and 35%. There are more comments in the thread about the native version consuming more resources: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,127212.0.html

Yes, but the upgrade notice has jumped from the .22 when I stay in the stable version.

27.0.35 is in the stable repo now.

Would you turn off the spectrum analyzers on the main screen and report the results?

My spectrum analyzers are always turn off. I have installed the 0.35 from the Media Center updater and it is around 30%, sometimes 27%, sometimes 33%. Something less than the native version.

Using the current latest build (27.0.35) which uses native coordinates spectrum analyzer off playing 96k 24 bit to the internal speakers of a Macbook pro 2014 dual core i5 on Catalina, around 5% cpu usage.

The highest I could get it up to was 30% playing SACD and resampling to play on the Mac internal speakers. That was the same for both flipped and native coordinate builds.

It's possible changing to the native build is causing your thumbs to be rebuilt. You could check in the MC system info pane.

It was the first thing I looked at. Audio Analysis and creation of Thumbnails were at 100%, with no activity. Of course, my library is almost 800,000 files, 65,000 albums in FLAC.

The problem is on the Retina screens like mine. There are several users commenting on it.

My screenshot is from a retina MacBook Pro.

We are going to need to figure out how to trigger this here. Are you using any DSP?

Yes, I use Izotope Ozone 9 (VST 3 Dynamics plugin) and a Magic Plus DAC (192 kHz). Track info is a bit tuned. How can I get that log?

Does the VST3 plugin have a display window?
What happens if you take it out of the chain?
What trackinfo are you using?
To get a log start playback, turn logging on in Help->Logging. Let it run for 10 seconds or so while you see an issue. Go back to Logging and report problem (log is saved on the desktop).

The plugin has a display window but it is never open. If I leave it open, Media Center reaches 67% of processor usage. With the window closed it doesn't matter if the plugin is active or not (about 24% in the 0.35 stable version you told me yesterday)

My track info config is:

[Canción #]. [Name] ([Reproducciones]) · [Album] [[Año]] - [Artista]

[Elapsed Time] // [Total Time] - [Bitrate (labeled)] · [Profundidad de Bit]bits [[Género]] · [PN Position] of [PN Tracks] | [Comentario] | [Zone]

I have uploaded the log to WeTransfer:

I think this is the problem, it looks like MC is trying to import tons of files that are already in your DB (I don't know why).

Code: [Select]
0096880: 123145396428800: Import: ImportNewFiles: Adding: /Volumes/DROBO 5C/16bits/Werner Bärtschi/Mozart- Scelsi Pärt Bärtschi Busoni/10 Piano Sonata No.13 in B flat K.333 1. Allegro.flac
0096880: 123145396428800: Import: ImportNewFiles:     Ignored (already in database, etc.)
0096880: 123145396428800: Import: ImportNewFiles: Adding: /Volumes/DROBO 5C/16bits/Werner Bärtschi/Mozart- Scelsi Pärt Bärtschi Busoni/11 Piano Sonata No.13 in B flat K.333 2. Andante cantabile.flac
0096880: 123145396428800: Import: ImportNewFiles:     Ignored (already in database, etc.)
0096880: 123145396428800: Import: ImportNewFiles: Adding: /Volumes/DROBO 5C/16bits/Werner Bärtschi/Mozart- Scelsi Pärt Bärtschi Busoni/12 Piano Sonata No.13 in B flat K.333 3. Allegretto grazioso.flac
0096880: 123145396428800: Import: ImportNewFiles:     Ignored (already in database, etc.)

This doesn't appear to have anything to do with native/flipped coordinates.

I'm not 100% certain, but it LOOKS like every file in your log that it's trying to Import as a new file has a special character in the name. Of course that's only a small sample of your library so it COULD be a coincidence....

Yes, that may be the problem, but I haven't done anything special to make the app behave that way. There is another curious thing that happens when I run a library import from «auto-import now». JRiver is adamant that there are about 60,000 extra files that need to be analyzed, but doesn't analyze them. It can be that problem with a type of characters, the file format of the external disk of the Mac, or the castillian-spanish language. I don't know. But I hope I don't have to restart my library from scratch because the data volume is too high to add all the files from scratch and analyze them and create the library views I have with the identified labels (more than 300).

Please disable the auto-import for now to test to see if this is the issue.

Since you indicated 27.0.22 was OK, I'm going to make a test build, I'll PM you when it's ready.

With auto-import disabled the use of the processor is very similar. I have closed and opened JRiver to check it. Version 0.22 I think it made the same use as 0.35. JRiver is almost always in the first position of use of the processor since years. I didn't know that other users run it with 5% or at most 10% of processor usage. I thought that between 20% and 30% was the usual consumption. I put my message here because it auto-updated to version 0.39 native and went to a minimum of 37% and I had seen the comments of other users that the native version was not yet ready. But I see that this is another problem, surely what you have observed. And then it will surely happen to more users that we don't notice.

Ok, then will you pull a log with that disabled so we can see what else is going on?
I'm starting to think it's just your DSP processing that shows the increased CPU usage and the import issue, which needs to be fixed anyway, isn't a problem.

High usage during DSP use is normal.
Like I said when I did DSP of SACD audio I have 30% as long as it was playing.

All these tests are with 16-bit FLAC. Only my first comment in the thread was made with 24bits. SACD never used it, nor other formats.

You are doing DSP still right? With that Ozone plugin??

Show me high CPU usage with DSP disabled and auto-import disabled.

I'm sending it to you in a few minutes because Time Machine is now saving a copy and the kernel task process could be altering the result.

Yes, now without Ozone 9 and autoimport there is a big difference. JRiver remains at 14% with peaks of 9% and 17%.

And after reactivated Ozone 9 Dynamics VST 3, the process of JRiver is again around 24%, although also at that time are more active kernel_task, Soulseek qt (app with java) and the VPN Nord Lynx:
