Gracenote Error: User Quota Exceeded...
« on: January 11, 2003, 10:23:54 am »

Hi, I've had no problems ripping CDs and obtaining track info from CDDB until today.  Ripped 2 with no problems, then on third received the following error:

Contact Media J. R. support, Gracenote Error 110/12: User Quota Exceeded

I haven't ripped anything for weeks and even then only a couple at a time, so not sure where this is coming from.  I'm running ver. 8.0.388.  I have a paid-up license for the software.

Hate to switch over to MM, but I'd like to get these CDs ripped today.

Any help available?

Thanks!

this is something that CDDB put into the DLL to keep users from accessing the CDDB database too many times in one day.

I do know this is a limitation on Non-Profit programmers (I have a license with CDDB) and this limit is present.

J river no longer has a contract with CDDB, and Media Jukebox Now Uses YADB in newer versions of the program.

CDDB may have put a limit on media Jukebox because there is no longer a contract between them and J river.

you might want to try later or tomorrow.

I think this is reset at 12 in the afternoon C.A. Time since CDDB is located in Berkeley, CA

since it is Saturday maybe there has been to many access for the program including other users.

this is a educated Guess...

Thanks for the reply.  Makes sense.

I tried resetting to YADB, but still couldn't get any track info (although I didn't get the Quota error any longer).  Is there something I need to do to make that switch work?

I've always assumed these services (CDDB, YADB, etc.) were free, so if I need to register and pay a fee I'll be happy to do so, just need to know how to go about it.

BTW, is the upgrade to 9 covered with a paid 8 license, or is that additional?

Thanks again,

Mike B

I've had the same problem w YADB & CDDB since yesterday.  Have you found a fix yet?

After I saw your post I restarted MJ with the YADB setting to check, and voila!  Worked like a champ.  Can't tell you what I did other than change the DB setting from CDDB to YADB, quit, waited a while (only because I had some Honey-Do's to do) and restarted it.

Don't know how long YADB will work, but if it craps out I'll repost.

Thanks,

Nope.  I reset to YADB, quit MJ8, rebooted, and still nothing.  It's picking up all of the album possibilities, just no track info.

I'm not sure I understand.  If you put a CD in to rip, and it goes to YADB, are you getting good track names back (at least some of the time)?

I'm using MJ8 to copy my old cassette library to cds.  I used to enter the artist and title and the track names would come up - or I would get a list of album titles with track names to choose from.  Now I just get the titles.

You might want to try Media Center 9 - it has individual track lookup that will help with your tapes. However, it is still new and currently only has about 65000 tracks. The YADB in MJ8 only works on CDs.

Have we gotten a definitive answer for this problem yet?  I have tried both settings and am having no success.

Yadb was down at around the time you posted. Please try it again (and you may have to remove ZoneAlarm).

Aaron,
Please post some detail on exactly what you're doing and what happens.

Please include your system info from MJ Help.

System Info:
Media Jukebox PLUS 8.0.388
Install Path: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\

CPU: Intel Pentium III 929 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 259 MB, Free - 93 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows 2000  Workstation 5.0 Service Pack 2 (Build 2195)

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2600.0000
ComCtl32.dll: 5.50.4704.1100
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
Shell32.dll: 5.00.3315.2902
wnaspi32.dll: Internal ASPI Layer

Okay - For months now I have been ripping my cassette collection to MP3s.  I have never changed my settings (set to YADB), or my method, and have never had a problem until last week.  Then all of a sudden, I go to record sound, line-in (just like always), and type in the group name and albumn title, hit "search internet for tracks," and then it returns the album title (and multiple albumns when there is a question) but with no track information. :-/

I can't think of any more detail than that.  What I have been doing is pretty straight-forward and hasn't changed.  That's why it's so frustrating that all-of-a-sudden it won't work.

...oh, and I can't get Todd off my start-up either!  :)

Can you do a lookup on a CD (stick one in the drive, right click on the CD icon, and choose "lookup from internet")?

Can you see the web page www.yadb.com?

It appears I can do both....I know I can see the www.yadb.com (althought it's just a paragraph or two of text).  When you say lookup the CD, from where?  While in MJ?  Where?  I don't see a spot to right-click on the CD while in MJ.  I can right-click on it in Window's Explorer....

In MJ, I chose Playing Now and then clicked on Artist Info and the information comes up.  Is that what you mean?

Aaron

P.S.  I appreciate you're helping me work through this.

Hi AaronAve,

Put a CD in your CD drive. On the left hand side of the Media Jukebox window, clikc on CD, DVD, and handhelds. Then click on the CD drive icon. Then right click on the icon and choose "Update from internet".

Also, are you using the same machine to rip as you do to post here?

Okay, I did that (although it says specifically "Update from CD Database).  It noted something to the effect of "updating from YADB" and then showed the information (although it didn't look like it changed).

...and yes, I am ripping from the same machine I am posting with.

I see what you mean now. I'll let you know more tomorrow.

Would you try one final time tonight? I can see your visit to the home page, and to the CD lookup, but not to the tracks lookup.

Just tried it again.  3:21pm, pst.

It brings up the correct album and album title and says "Click OK to use these track names" but the area where the track names is supposed to be is blank.

Hi AaronAve,

This is  a problem with CDDB (I was under the impression it was connecting to YADB, but it isn't). You have a couple of options: wait for the next build of MJ8 which will use YADB (could be a few weeks), or upgrade to Media Center 9 which already uses YADB.

Hi John,

I guess I don't understand then.  The options allow me to use either YADB or CDDB and I chose YADB...but it really connects back to CDDB?

I added the recording helper to YADB about a month ago, too late to get into Media Jukebox until the next release. Media Center has it though.

So, I guess I'm still not understanding why it quit working all of a sudden.  I was always using YADB but it just quit working the other day with the track title lookup.  Was it MJ looking to YADB for album titles and then CDDB for track titles before?

Correct. MJ uses YADB for the CD lookup, and CDDB for the track title lookup.

It probably quit working because of a change on CDDB's side.

Okay, so I'm just stuck now until the new release of MJ?  Any idea how long?  This, basically, has me dead in the water now for Casette Ripping.

Will I get a free updgrade?

Hi John,

I guess that is not really the answer I was looking for.  I'm a bit frustrated.  I tried the free trial MJ and it worked for me so I went ahead and bought the license because it did everything I wanted it to do.  Now, a month or so later, it no longer does what I want it to do.  To get a new version to again get what I need, will cost me an additional ~$35.  That doesn't seem fair that because MJ's contract with CDDB got screwed up, my $30 license is not worth what I thought it was.  Any help?

Aaron,

From the FAQ cited above:

A Media Center version 9.0 license will also work with Media Jukebox version 8.0. An MJ version 8 license purchased by December 3, 2002, will work with MC version 9. MJ Version 8 licenses purchased after December 3, 2002, can be upgraded to MC version 9. The current upgrade price is $12.98. On release (February, 2002), the upgrade price will be $19.98.

You purchased on Dec 3rd, so your license is already valid for MC 9 at no additional charge, if you want to upgrade.

Or you can wait until the next round of fixes for MJ8. It will be a couple of weeks because we are busy on MC9, but we'll get there.

Okay, thanks!  I'll look at that and see what the differences are to see if there is any reason I wouldn't want to go to 9.

Thanks.

I've been trying to get MC9 to work after giving up on MJ8 because of the same problem you have described.  Every time I record a CD, I get only as many copies of the last queued track as there are tracks in the queue.  It might be worth waiting fot a MJ8 fix.

Every Cd I've burned with MC9 has as many tracks as the number of tracks I've queued up, 12 for example.  But all 12 tracks are a copy of track number 12, the last one in the queue.  Tracks 1-11 are not on the CD.  Others have reported the same problem.

As far as I can tell, rosnick is the only one with the duplicate track problem. The burning code works fine for most people. Also, it's a problem with burning, not ripping.

I am getting the same problem with accessing CDDB.  I get the "USER QUOTA EXCEEDED" error message as well.

I tried switching to YADB, but YADB can't find a number of my CDs in its database..."CD NOT FOUND".

Are you using version 9?  Version 8 licenses purchased before December 3, 2002, will work with V9.  Later licenses can be upgraded.  Details are here:
