70% CPU Load when playing any audio file
« on: December 24, 2020, 03:52:47 am »

Hi All,
I'm on MC 27 latest releases (also happens in previous releases) - using any DAC I am using (Zen DACs, K5 Pro, iBasso D01,02,03,04), when playing M4A, DSD, FLAC - you name it, I see the CPU load jump to 70%+ during playback. You stop it - it goes back to normal. I don't do any DSP stuff. Bit Streaming DSD is enabled.
Even when doing DSD Bit-streaming.  I also have Audirvana 3.5.x and the same files I play using the same DACs when played, Audirvana consumes 0.8% CPU.
I'm on Big Sur 11.1, MacBook Pro 16",2019.

Any ideas what is going on ?

Thanks
Tal

Which process is consuming the CPU?

What is the full version of MC?

Double check DSP and Bitstreaming settings.  You may be converting DSD.

- No DSD conversion - checked - I am Bitstreaming DSD. I confirm native DoP to all my DACS.
- The process is Media Center - 70%+

Here are some screenshots:

ALAC1 - M4A PLayBack AudioPath
DOP128 - DSD128 PlayBack AudioPath
CPU-M4A-Playback - 90%+ CPU Utilization while playing ALAC
CPU-DOP128-Playback - 90%+CPU Utilization while playing DSD128

This is all done with a  FIIO K5 PRO DAC. Same device, same files, on Audirvana 3.5- <1% CPU utilization...

Looks like I solved it! - Its the Spectrum Analyzer Graphics at the top. I disabled "Show Spectrum Analyzer Left/Right" at the upper top part of Media Center - both of them! - CPU load drops to 6.0% !!! :-)

Hope it helps all ;-)
