Cross-Fade, etc. effects when streaming to TiVo?
« on: April 08, 2003, 08:23:04 pm »

Maybe this is a dumb question, but the cross-fade effects don't seem to apply when streaming music to TiVo...TiVo just seems to play each song in it's entirety end-to-end.

Is there any possible way to stream the cross-fade effects along with the songs?

TiVo is doing the playback, so they really need to build it in.

The only way we could do it is to send one big mp3 that was really a crossfaded mix of a bunch of others.  It'd be possible, but it'd be a lot better as a TiVo side solution.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Matt. I kind of thought that's how it worked, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I would love to see TiVo develop support for cross-fading.

In my opinion, Media Center does some of the best sounding cross-fading I've heard - it blows away any plug-in I've ever installed for WinAmp - and the ability to tweak the fading is good.

Another vote.

I just wanted to add another vote to supporting crossfade via Tivo.

I understand that Tivo is responsible for playing the file.  However, Tivo only plays what it is sent.  With support for on-the-fly conversion now available, hopefully something could be done to handle mixing track together on-the-fly.

(and I certainly don't expect to see this function anytime soon, just wanted to voice my vote.)

Background:  I was investigating MC to see if I should switch from MusicMatch.  I haven't had much time to explore yet, but liked what I saw.  The big question mark would be my husband.  He is the big music consumer in the family.  The easy support for Rio 500 was a definite plus (better than MM) and the automatic categorization that works with Tivo HMO was another.  Though I wasn't sure if that would be enough to push him into learning a new application.  Well, last night he couldn't sleep and this morning he told me "I love Media Center!"  He had found it and started using it.  He is the one who really would like the cross-fade to work with Tivo/HMO.

That said, I am hopping over to buy a license before 4/11. :)
