CPU Advice Please?
« on: February 26, 2021, 05:45:25 am »

Hello Everyone,

I’m in the process of building a silent Windows audio server and JRiver is recommended by my DACs manufacturer.

I intend to just use it for serving music to my DAC via USB. I don’t intend to use any kind of up sampling or DSP functionality in JRiver, though I would use the feature that inserts a small amount of silence at the beginning of the first track of an album as my DAC makes a small click when audio formats/bitrates change.
Highest bit rate format would be DSD512.

I’d also be operating JRiver by remote.
Would a 35w TDP Intel Core i5 10600T be capable of doing the above or do I need something more powerful? It has a passmark score of 12177.

Additional PC specs are:

Streacom FC10 Alpha case
Asuz Z490M-Plus Micro-ATX Motherboard.
32GB DDR4 2666 Ram.
512GB M.2 System Drive
4TB Samsung EVO SSD.

Windows server 2019.

At a later date, I’ll add a JCat or Pink Faun USB card.

Thank you in advance to anyone taking the time to post.

That CPU and hardware should be more than fine (though, if you can find a AMD Ryzen 5000 series CPU and motherboard, it might be cheaper with better performance and less power draw), but I should point out that JRiver doesn't support running Media Center on Windows Server.

I don't work for JRiver... I help keep the forums safe from Viagra and other sources of sketchy pharmaceuticals.

Thanks for the reply, good to know I won't be getting something can't cope.

And mods, sorry for posting in the wrong section.

Kind regards,

You should use Windows 10, there's no need for Windows Server. You may have problems finding some drivers for Windows Server.
