I have been using & enjoying the MC23 for a while.... exclusively to play digital audio files to my (various) DAC's..... Recently I pulled the trigger on Holo Audio May DAC L2, and with this particular DAC, I like to stream unprocessed RAW files from JRiver MC 23. The result is amazing.

Recently, I tried the HQ Player and its many upsampling, dither, filters' and DSD modulators' options; all of which are supported by May DAC.

However, I still like the MC 23's raw streaming ("Player" -> "DSP Studio" -> "Output Format" unticked) the most. May DAC sounds very natural to me this way + I do not lose the depth perception of the soundstage.

So, the question:

Has MC27 (I assume vers. 27 is the latest...) introduced any benefits in sound processing, compared to vers. 23 that I use at the moment?

Maybe the MC27 version has new filters and new upsampling algorithms (I think MC23 has two algorithms: the native JRiver and the SoX...)?? Does MC27 offer any improvement is DSD processing, over MC23 (a new DSD modulator and accompanying filter(s)... maybe..??)

There really hasn't been any changes in DSD in a long time, since Media Center mainly bitstreams DSD. If you convert PCM to DSD or DSD to PCM (which is a lossy process) there's been slight changes in this, e.g. changes to the lowpass filtering needed when doing DSD > PCM conversions.

Otherwise I'd recommend trying Media Center 27 in the 30 day free trial mode and test it for yourself.

As AD said, the low pass filter options for DSD to PCM conversions was changed recently. And, a while back an option to select what sample rates to bitstream and which to convert to PCM was added, so automatic conversion is done on sample rates your DAC does not support. Not sure exactly when. It is part of the Bitstreamm- DSD Custom option.  Minor changes to the conversions were added. SoX can now be used to resample PCM, but the SoX DSD conversion routines were not added. Pretty sure no other filtering has been added.
