Request: Touch-compatible lists
« on: January 09, 2021, 08:55:55 am »

If MC is running on a touch screen, and one touches a list (e.g., a list display of album covers in a pane), and tries to scroll up or down the list, it doesn't work and behaves weirdly. It tries to lasso objects instead of scrolling, as one has come to expect in this touch-display filled world.

A guest last night intuitively extended his finger to scroll through my music library, and then found it didn't work. It yielded an unintended/random selection of a few of the covers where his finger had happened to pass over.

---He gave up and walked away.

Perhaps JRiver could offer an alternative 'pointer-mode', to translate single-click + drag = list scroll, INSTEAD of lasso + select? That, on its own could revolutionize the MC touch experience, without any wider-scope overhauls. (?)

Thank you so much!

Pretty sure the recommended touch friendly user interface in Media Center is meant to be Panel. I admit, it's a bit cumbersome having to open a web browser to navigate/control Media Center with touch, but it's probably as good as it's going to get.

The standard views aren't really meant for touch - I know exactly what you mean and have tried navigating panes via touch and it's a bit of a nightmare.

I use touch a lot and like using it.  I think we could do better with Standard View, but it would be a lot of work to get it right.  Panel is a good alternative.  There's also a touchscreen skin for Theater View.  Or use JRemote, Gizmo, etc. on a phone or tablet.

I agree we should work on it.

Well, being able to scroll through the panes lists with touch would actually go a long way.

Is there a possibility/merit  of JRemote or Gizmo for windows as they are designed with good touch interface(possibly with ARM64 support)? Also Panel with touch interface as a Progressive Web App?

Yes, I do use Panel regularly on my Laptop and Tablet. I have saved as a Web App and to be fair, it works well.  Panel as a Progressive Web App may be better with native app features?
