I wonder if there are people who ripped successfully Electric Ladyland Blu-Ray.

Initially I used Makemkv (rip to mkv)and MMH (media music helper - Win only). ripped DTS HD 6 x 96/24.

Imported to MC and very happy that  it plays. MCH discovered that on track 2 something is missing. Then track 15  - lots are missing.

My next try was Makemkv - backup , then DVD Extractor; converted tracks 2 - 8; other tracks - protected with BD+  - will not do.

Opened suspected tracks 2 and 15 in Audacity - track 2 has lower Center level and occasional distortion, track 15 - almost nothing on Center channel, except for short burst of noise half a way through.

Possibility to rip Blu Ray to have them in MC library was an important factor  to move from disc spinners to computer audio, but as I can see it , with current protection schemes it is not possible to achieve quality rip from Blu-Ray.

It is highly unlikely that so many people did not face this problem, think that all are unaware and consider the rips as proper.

Your findings please?  Run a check with Audacity and find out .

Yes, no one in the world as ever noticed that their rips sound different from the original  ::)

Sounds like you don't have the needed SVQ for that disc. MakeMKV downloads it automatically - as long as you don't block it on your firewall. Also, don't run MakeMKV directly from within a ZIP file, you need to extract/install it so that it finds the local SVQ database file. Is it still doesn't work, follow instructions on that link to report your disc to them so they can create a patch.

"BD+ program code must be executed in order to access protected AV clips; in addition to being encrypted AV clips are also "damaged" and BD+ code execution is required to "fix"[2] the files."
"Execution of BD+ code produces so-called FUTs - "fix-up tables" that contain information how to repair specific files. Applying FUTs also adds forensic marks to "repaired" files that describe all aspects of VM implementation including information that in some cases allows to identify a player up to a serial number."

New hope for me.
Can I ask for detailed steps;
1. I will download the file and put it where it should be
(need to check firewall, maybe I have to open it for MakeMKV? )

2. I use Make MKV backup function with decrypt ticked v

3. Output file goes then to DVD-Extractor.
Are saying that I need to unzip is? My view is that it is not zipped.

This should be all, I guess.

Please correct me, if I'm wrong.

New to Blu Ray ripping, this is the last unknown  to enjoy MC.

Yes, check your firewall to allow MakeMKV.
Make sure you install the latest MakeMKV (1.16.3), and run it from the desktop or start menu icon (not from a makemkv_portable.ZIP file, it needs to be installed)

I assume since this was posted in the Mac section that it's being used on a Mac. In that case you'll want to move the MakeMKV application (unpack it if it's in an archive like .zip) into the Applications folder and run it from there.

Unless of course this was posted in the wrong section and Windows is being used instead? If that's the case this topic will probably need to be moved to the correct location.

It is on Mac.
I tried initially on Windows to learn a bit before jumping to Mac that will be my system.
All done as talked about, no message from DVD Extractor about BD+.
Extractor converted all 16 tracks, on All along the watchtower Center is almost silent , exactly the same as  before.
Playing downmix  5.1 to 4.0 JRSS mixing does the same strange thing - guitar disapears, choirs are very low level.
Mixing the same to 2 channels produces regular Electric Ladyland content.

I'm on MC 24 as I could not  get from JRiver chance to trial  software for 30 days.
After initial mishap I removed JRiver completely (like in Windows) and that was it. Trial period expired.
I've been begging to reset my counter of days for Mac and the answer was NO.

I wonder if MC27 will behave in the same way.
Interesting.

DVD-A King Crimson ITCOCK is being mixed properly. There is strong use of center channel and it is in place in 4.0

thanks anyway

I've been begging to reset my counter of days for Mac and the answer was NO.

This isn't possible. Once the trial has expired and the extension has been used up and/or the app was uninstalled and reinstalled on a Mac, the trial can't be reset. JRiver won't make changes to allow it to be reset (and I honestly don't see them considering this) because it could potentially be abused by certain groups of users to perpetually run/reset the trial without ever paying for it. Thus the only workaround is running it on another computer.

But that begs the question, why trial MC24? Why not trial MC26 or even MC25 which is newer? There's been a lot of Mac-related development since MC24, so it's stands to reason that trialing MC26 instead would be the better choice since you can't trial MC27? Maybe I'm missing something here?

Does it mean that I can run test on MC26?
I was happy to find version that would install and operate.
At leat to confirm some functionality.
Tell me that I will be able to install MC26 and I will do so immediately.

I'm close to purchasing current version

Well, if you never ran MC26 on your Mac, yeah, you can trial it too. Just do a library backup in MC24 and restore the library backup in MC26.

Last version of MC26 available here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,126571.0.html

Rips properly done.
No change, All Along The Watchtower (my testing item) Center almost empty (as shown in Audacity).
Other problems remain as well.

Strange enough, when I set number of speakers to 2 downmix from 5.1 to 2 - Electric Ladyland closely remembers old stereo recording.
I have no idea how this 2 channel  emerges form strange 5.1.

Maybe lot of phasing and other psychedelic stuff of the 60's

MC 26 also does not help.
I did not expect any change with MC 26 as there is a problem in resultant files.

Anyone with rip can check the file (All along the watchtower) in Audacity to see what is in center track?

Also how does it sound in MCH system 5.1 setup and downmixed to 4.0 (4 speakers)

Interesting investigation.

If you believe MakeMKV cannot rip your disc properly, you should post on the MakeMKV forum.

Your problem has nothing to do with MC, as it would occur with any playback software.  So although people here would probably be happy to provide general advice, if there is an issue with MakeMKV not properly decrypting your disc, that can only be fixed by reporting it on the MakeMKV forum.

you may be right, or wrong.
Yes, indeed, I was about to report to MKV, but there could be problem in mixing algorithm and this will be then JRiver problem.
I like judgment before investigation.

Found a problem.
While using DVD Audio - Extractor I contacted their database to download tags.
I remember something strange appearing in left window with titles.
Software started to behave strangely, i had to restart it and  still it was behaving stranegly, but converting to MCH flac files.
Having analyzed this behavior I removed all downloaded records and did conversion again without contacting their database.
Everything went smoothly and the result is as expected.
No more problems with Hendrix, plays beautifully.

I was looking for explanation everywhere, hence my entry here, apologies for using this forum.
