Performance differences
« on: March 24, 2021, 03:59:58 pm »

Compared the performance of versions .66 and .75:
played from a list of 100 records.

For record no. 45:
Record type: flac, avg bitrate: 2361, same config: reading from NAS

0.66:  %CPU between 24% and 78% - typ. 28%
0.75:  %CPU between 80% and 170% - typ. 130%

no other activity during replay (except performance measurement)

My system: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15', Mitte 2015);  2,8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7;  16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, mac OS 10.15.7

On my system version 27.0.75 slows everything down. I went back to 27.0.66.
Could you look into it?

There aren't any changes I can see between build 66 and 75 that would cause this and I haven't seen anything like that.
You are seeing increased CPU usage after 44 albums have been played? How many hours of running?

I don't play them all on the same day, this was day 3. (number 4 on that day...)

Could it be a buffer issue? The file is pretty big, 180 MB, btw. Keith Jarrett...
The record played fine with both versions, but .75 slowed down everything.... (didn't check memory usage....)

(The changes could be in buffer allocation due to whatever, like items 33 und 38 for version .73....)

I'm using .66 right now and I like it.

I'll skip .75. (Don't feel bad: I skipped Big Sur when 11.2.1 misbehaved, Apple fixed it, but I'll be waiting until 11.4.  ;-) )

Can I assist in anything, like running .75 on some of my records and watching CPU and memory usage?

Problems with large files from a NAS could be NAS or network related.  You could try local playback to see what happens.

Items 33 and 38 in 27.0.73 are only used when playing from a network connection (streaming & DLNA, not file based like from a NAS) and when those checkboxes under Tools->Options->Media Network->Advanced were enabled (they are disabled by default) so these wouldn't affect you.
