I've started trying to use MC for managing my high-chaos folders of family photos (after years and years of using it mostly for music). I'm spending a lot of time looking at an ordinary list view (mostly working on figuring out "the date" for each picture from the motley assortments of properties saved by various lousy phones, cameras, etc. Especially nice are those where the device had its clock/date miss-set. Anyway, I'm finding the "pop up a big image of a picture when the mouse hovers over it for more than a very short time" feature to be wildly annoying. It almost always seems to cover up the part of the screen I'm reading. I have the "real display" window detached and hovering over in the corner so that whenever I want to actually see a picture I press enter or double click or something. Is there any way to disable the on-mouse-hover preview window?

I don't know of a way.  I move the mouse away when I need to.

Try opening the tag window so you read what you want there.

Try using search to narrow the view.  You can enter a year (2012) or all but a year (-2012).

You could also search for a particular camera.

when you go into options>Tree & View and you disable 'show track info tooltip' the popup goes away..

that is what you are after, right?

@gappie: Nice work around. In some perfect world I could have disabled only the (large) image tooltips and left the (small) audio track ones. But I can totally live with this world.

For this very reason, I have ached for the show tooltip toggle to be available as a toolbar button for many years now. Delving into options to switch it on and off all the time is a pain.
