How to start Media Server as a service
« on: June 04, 2021, 06:13:28 pm »

I enjoy using JRemote, however it seems that on a regular basis I receive the dreaded red "Connection Error" because JRiver Media Server is not running. I've tried fixing this such as putting Media Server in shell:startup - but that requires the user to be logged in which is not a good solution. I even went so far as to use NSSM to create a service from Media Server, but it fails to start as well -maybe lack of knowledge on my part.

Is there a way to make Media Server automatically start even after a reboot without requiring a user login? I would like it to survive Media Center upgrades and Windows Updates. If the PC is on, I want it running!

Is there a solution for this that I've overlooked or would you consider making Media Server a Windows service?

Check Tools, Options and look for Startup section. "Run on Windows Startup:" and select Media Server - simple as that.

Running as a service is not supported. Some appear to have had limited success using Firedaemon, but again, you'll be on your own as this use-case is not one that is supported.

Thanks everyone.  David your suggestion seemed to do the trick.  I appreciate it!
