Problem with 25 fps PAL content playback

<< < (2/3) > >>

tij:
Indeed smooth motion is engaged ... strange that it did not improve anything (it will not eliminate problem completely ... just make it less bad).

As for TV ... if indeed it has option to change pal/ntsc ... then you need to switch before playing movie ... hopefully it has auto.

edojan:
Setting the screen refresh to 23hz with the smooth motion helped to stop the flickering. Interesting, that the flicker is back with other refresh rates such as 60hz or 59hz. The problem with 23hz and smooth motion --a lot of artifacts whenever there is any movements on the screen.  The moving objects lose sharpness and aquire  trailing ghostly shadows

edojan:
and I have checked to see if the TV has a setting for PAL - it doesn't

tij:
Try this

[options]->[video] enable VideoClock

In madVR [devices]->[your tv]->[display modes] enable treat 25fps movies as 24fps

EDIT: try enabling VideiClick first ... if it does not produce smoith okayback, then try madVR 25fps as 24fps

edojan:
tij, thanks for your help.

Enabling Video Clock in JR and disabling smooth motion in madvr did the trick. To summarize, in order to fix the frame dropping / flickering issues with 25 FPS content playback on a tv which lacks refresh rate capabilities that are multiple of 25:

1. Manually set the tv refresh rate to 23 hz at 1080p 1920x1080  (as mentioned, the screen flickers badly if the refresh is set to 60 or 59, and flickers less frequently if set to 24)
2. Enable Video Clock in JR
3. Set Display Settings Automatic Change mode to custom

Red October HQ is enabled with best quality settings (my 1050TI card seems to handle this ok)
