Mac Mini M1 MC28 crashes while trying to play ISO and DSF
AGAWA:
but I have to say that there was a difference in behaviour of MC 27 and MC 28.
MC28 only was crashing with follow up Apple report; MC27 just displayed error message.
Worth investigating?
AGAWA:
and yet another point for investigation:
Audio - Advanced - Auto configure output settings on playback error : set to Ask,
is causing problems when Core Audio used
and no problems when talking to external DAC.
It's good to tidy things up in software ; to avoid problems popping up somewhere else.
Old man's view.
bob:
It sounds like you've found an issue with the "ask" dialog.
I usually don't set that.
I can guess the issue, there was a Xcode compiler change required because of Apple requiring packages to be notarized starting in Mojave IIRC.
That new (and subsequent) Xcode compiler generated a lot of problems for us because of UI elements on background threads. Thought we got them all. I'm guessing that this one got missed.
AGAWA:
It was quite confusing, as playing to external DAC with ASK setting did not cause any problems.
So I assumed that this should not interfere with Core Audio direct.
Eventually when seeing Mahler 4 picture I went again through settings and there you have it.
