Need help with Random Playlist - smart
« on: July 20, 2021, 11:02:49 am »

I have a playlist, 100 Random songs. However, it appears that the selection of the 100 songs is not random only the order of the playlist is random. Specifically, it appears to select the same 100 songs from the library and play them in random order each time I run the smart list.

How can I get a smart list to literally select 100 random songs from across the entire library each time I run it?

Shuffle, then trim:
[Media Type]=[Audio] ~sort=Random ~n=100

I know how to do it manually. My question was how to get a smart playlist to do that?  ?

Click "Import / Export" and type my example in.  Then look at what it builds.

It looks like the framework shuffles for you if you limit by a number of tracks.  So there's no need to add that rule.

The stock smartlist should work:
[Media Type]=[audio] ~n=100

I'm just not getting it through my head. I ended up with this:

Shuffle, [Media Type]=[Audio] ~sort=Random ~n=100 [Media Type]=[Audio] ~sort=Random ~n=100

you can get a random 100 songs from the builtin smartlist "Audio -- 100 Random Songs".
3rd smartlist from the top.
that wouldn't work?

<light bulb> Apparently the problem stemmed from using HouseBand to "Play the playlist 100 Random Songs". When using that command JR would not refresh the smart list in response to the Houseband command. It would just play the same previously selected (100 random songs) playlist over and over. If Houseband rises from the ashes, hopefully, there will be an option to mitigate this behavior. I verified the re-selection does work by manually refreshing the smart list. FYI - the WAF took a serious hit over this.  ::)
