Cloudplay not working (page doesn't render)
« on: July 24, 2021, 11:24:19 pm »

I am trying to access Cloudplay. When I logged in, I got this message in the built-in browser:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="true"?>
<Response Status="OK"/>

I get the same result on two instances of JRiver running on two different devices.

Any idea how to get Cloudplay working?

Thanks.

Can’t reach this page

•Make sure the web address http://localhost is correct
•Search for this site on Bing
•Refresh the page

I'm using Cloudplay right now, so I think it's working.

Security software on your machine?  Configure Windows Defender.

Have you used it successfully in the past?

I note when I click on Cloudplay the page renders properly for about 2 seconds, then I get the error:

Can’t reach this page

•Make sure the web address http://localhost is correct
•Search for this site on Bing
•Refresh the page

I checked Defender settings and they appear to be correct.

Try switching the browser engine in Tools > Options >View

I tried logging out and back in just now and that worked.

Did you register?

Do you have a Cloudplay account?

Did it ever work?

I was able to click on a genre in the two seconds before the error appeared, and music played, then the original error popped up (music still playing). I also tried logging off and on, and changing the browser. Now I get a new error shown on the attachment.

Thanks.

I just confirmed the new error occurs whether I have IE or Chromium selected as the browser.

I can open localhost:52199 in a standalone browser, which gives a long list of commands.

Attached is a video showing what happens in real time. Note the only click I make is the initial click on the Cloudplay branch of the tree.

I upgraded to 28, thinking it may solve the problem. Now I get this error:

Hmmm… can't reach this pagelocalhost refused to connect.
Try:

Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED
Check your Internet connection
Check your network cables, modem, and routers.
Allow Microsoft Edge to access the network in your firewall or antivirus settings.
If it's already listed as a program allowed to access the network, try removing it from the list, and adding it again.
If you use a proxy server:
Check your proxy settings. You might need to ask your organization if the proxy server is working. If you don't think you should be using a proxy server, go to Settings > System > Open your computer's proxy settings

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it with no change. Other failed efforts include:

-Turn off VPN
-Verify HOSTS file is OK
-Create exceptions for JRiver in Defender
-Log out of and in to Cloudplay
-Upgrade from JR27 to JR28
-Reinstall JR 27
-Restart the router
-Flush DNS
-Reboot (multiple times)

Note the same issue exists on two different JRiver installations on two different devices (one running Win10 under Parallels on an iMac, and the other a Nimitra streamer). Both are connected to the same network.

This is very frustrating.

Would someone at JRiver please provide a solution? I've been a paying customer for more than 10 years. It seems like my loyalty would be worthy of some kind of response.

Thank you.

I would think you would need the port on the request.

It doesn't work from a standalone browser.  Only from within MC.

I'm sorry it's not working for you, but we can't fix what we can't duplicate.

What happens if you run MC, then, in a browser, type http://localhost:52199

With MC28 running, I get the attached when typing http://localhost:52199 into (standalone) Chrome, but the page is unresponsive.

Thanks.

That Panel works means that at least port 52199 is open on your machine.

Read the error message in the image you posted carefully.  The answer may be there.  For example, Edge may be blocked.

When I run a port scan, I get this for 52199. Shouldn't there be an IP address associated?

I just re-read this.  That you get the Home page in Panel is good.  That nothing responds is bad.  This is probably a security problem on your machine.  Try a Google search for advice.

The issue persists even if Windows firewall is turned off. What other security issues could cause this? And why would the same issue arise on two different machines?

Are you sure it's not something on JRiver's end?

And doesn't it seem odd that MC connects Cloudplay for about two seconds, then throws the error? (See video attached)

New failed efforts include:

-Turn off Windows Defender firewall
-Change DNS settings (from Google to Cloudflare)

I installed IIS and got the same error, but with a bit more information that may help in troubleshooting (see attached).

Can JRiver "kill" my Cloudplay account and let me set it up again?

Jim, is cloudplay (or a redirect to it) hosted locally? My first thought reading this was that it would fail because it's looking for cloudplay at localhost, and it's not there... is it?

Cloudhosted centrally, but it uses MCWS to communicate with MC. It sounds to me like some MC Network settings got messed up here.

Interesting comments. It seems weird to me that the same MC network settings would get "messed up" in the same way on two different machines.

Is it possible to kill my Cloudplay account so I can try setting it up again?

Thanks.

Are you sure it's not something on JRiver's end?

To me, the first thing that comes to mind is something on your network is messing with it. Cloudplay is working fine here, tested it on both Windows and Linux and it loads and plays fine here.

Is it possible to kill my Cloudplay account so I can try setting it up again?

I doubt this will make a difference. It really sounds like a networking issue of some sort.

For the record, in MC28 I have removed the requirement for MCWS to actually be reachable for CloudPlay, since it was giving us other problems as well.

Since CloudPlay is trying to reach your MCWS on port 80, did you ever try setting MCWS to port 80? My assumption is that you had it set to 80 in MC at some point, which informed CloudPlay that this is the port to use.
You would have to remove IIS before trying again though, since it's likely hogging that port now.

How would I even go about changing the port for MCWS (e.g., to 52199)?

It's probably not the best idea to post your access key in a public forum, especially so as you do not have any authentication enabled...

I was able to determine that the WAN IP address associated with your access key is 94.140.8.xx, which RIPE suggests belongs to NordVPN...
Quote
netname:         NORDVPN-L1
descr:           Packethub S.A.

Are you using NordVPN? If you are, that's a pretty crucial piece of network information you failed to share with the people trying to help you here.

The whole point of such a service is annonimity, right? If you are using a VPN service, then, I suspect that many, if not all, of MC's network sharing features will not work while the VPN is active, unless the VPN service offers port forwarding, which you would need to set up.

MCWS does not need to be publicly reachable for CloudPlay to work.

Please try my suggestion above. As CloudPlay is trying to access your MCWS on port 80, just change the port to 80 and try to login. Once you are logged in, you should be able to change the port back.

I appreciate the tip on the access key. I deleted that message.

I did mention in an earlier message that I tried Cloudplay with the VPN on and off, with no change (acknowledgedly, I didn't mention Nord by name).

I will try changing the port to 80 and see what happens (fingers crossed). (I'd do it now, but I'm waiting for a Time Machine restore of my Windows VM to finish).

Thanks for the guidance.

Soooo...I decided to sign up as a new user (using one of my other email addresses) and voila...Cloudplay works perfectly. There has to be something wrong with my original account at the JRiver end. I'd prefer to use the original account, but I believe I'll need help at your end to get it working.

Thanks.

SOLVED! In scrolling around, I saw the option under Settings to cancel a Cloudplay account. After about 20 tries and some fast clicking to avoid the error referenced above, I was able to click on the cancel option from the "bad" account, and sign up again (with the same credentials). Now that account works. Clearly the account was bolloxed at the JRiver end. I hope this helps someone else.
