MC is a complex program compared to Kodi. And it takes time to learn how to use it. On plus side, it can organize stuff the way you want it and it still support MadVR.
Like i said, MC gives priority to tags inside files. If your internal tags are a mess, then it will import that mess.
There is a tool to fix it, like Jim said. Select files you want to fix (try it on few files first ... before applying it to all of them) ... then [Tools]->[Library Tools]->[Fill properties from filenames...]
There ... specify your template ... eg most movies will be
[Name] ([Year])
PS. developers are more friendly in MC than Kodi
... cause they get paid for their work
