Equalizer 4K file won't play
« on: August 25, 2021, 12:00:32 am »

I have several 4K movies stored on a NAS that play just fine with MC27.
However "The Equalizer" never actually starts. The screen goes blank and then the desktop (or Theater view) reappears.

I reviewed the file and compared it to the log for "The Equalizer 2", which loads and plays just fine.
A lot of similar things happen in both logs but I can't understand what caused the different behavior for the first movie.

Can someone take a look and provide an explanation?

I might not be qualified to reply, but just to have asked, are you running macos 12 monterey beta 5 or are you on an older version? There was some unmentioned change in the beta 5 of monterey that broke some apps' ability to directly playback ac3/eac3 (dolby digital) audio in video files which made them infinitely load or fail completely to start.

I meant to post this issue in MC27 for Windows, not sure how it ended up over here.  ;D

But I think the underlying problem can be explained by someone who can decode the log files.

Not sure if its same problem ... i have something similar happening in MC27 if rip has insane amount of audio and subtitle tracks (older LAV filter has limit on audio/subtitlr track number)

This was corrected in MC28 through updated LAV filter.

EDIT: first movie has 66 streams ... second movie has 39

You can try remuxing movie to reducenumber of stream ... or try MC28 on trial

EDIT2: checked my old thread https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=122640.0

Limit on mc27 is 64 streams  due to LAV filter

I removed all the unnecessary audio and subtitle tracks.
Now the file plays just fine.

Or you can buy mc28  which fixed the problem, and support further improvement :)

PS. I am not JRiver employee or in any way connected to them ... other than i am just their customer like you :)

I will eventually upgrade to MC28.
I was able to reduce the size of the movie file by 20% by removing all the unnecessary audio and subtitle tracks.
