Moving Location of Music Files - Need to rescan?
« on: September 09, 2021, 12:01:26 pm »

Hi,

I have a rather large music database and want to move the files to another location.  The structure will stay the same, but it is being moved to a NAS from a local HD.

Is there a way to change this in JRiver or do I need to do a complete rescan of the library and rebuild the database?

Thanks

The wiki has a topic called Moving Files.

Got it.  However, don't think it answers my question.

PC running Media Center is using music stored on a NAS which has just quit (PC is fine).
Putting Backup of music (in same structure) onto a different NAS.

Is there a way to simply point JRiver to the new location, remember the install of JRiver is not changing.

Thanks

It does answer the question.  MC can do it.

What am I missing?

JRiver has no access to the files anymore as the NAS is kaput.
So, I can not use JRiver to Rename, Move or Copy the Files to the new location.
I don't think I can use the Find and Replace (the top level directory/NAS) as it says it will attempt to move the files and it can not.
Can I use Drag and Drop or will it also try to move the files?
Don't want to Move to another Application, and nor am I changing the JRiver install and moving to a new computer.

What am I missing?

Rename, Move, & Copy Files has the option to only update the database location.  Look at the top left.  Find and replace is another way.

Look at Library Tools - Rename, Move and Copy. You can select all the files and make a global change, like d: to e:, with the Find and Replace option. Try a few first before doing the whole library.  The window on the right shows you the changes to be made.

Stop the manual upload and use MC's Rename, Move, and Copy tool to do the move.

Moving them from a backup to a new NAS.  The old NAS is dead and this is what JRiver was pointed to...
