CPU usage / Fan noise
« on: September 10, 2021, 05:33:24 pm »

I'm new to MC and recently purchased a license for Mac.

I notice when running Media Center 28, shortly after I begin audio playback my CPU fans kick in and stay engaged until I quit MC28. This is true even after playback has been stopped and the app should be idle.

Is this a known issue or does it have a workaround?

My setup:
  macOS 11.5.2
  Model Name:   iMac
  Model Identifier:   iMac17,1
Processor Name:   Quad-Core Intel Core i7
  Processor Speed:   4 GHz
  Number of Processors:   1
  Total Number of Cores:   4
L2 Cache (per Core):   256 KB
  L3 Cache:   8 MB
  Hyper-Threading Technology:   Enabled
  Memory:   32 GB

Activity monitor shows Media Center at 65 - 68% of CPU

It's likely that MC's doing audio analysis, thumbnailing or importing.
Did you setup any auto-import folders in MC?
How large is your collection?
Does it contain video?
What build are you running?

The only thing I can think of then is thumbnailing.
You could try just building them all at once then seeing if the cpu usage settles down.
Search (bottom box) for Build missing thumbnails under tools->options. If the media is on a NAS with the number of files you have, this will take some time.
