[Solved] Which ports to open in firewall?
« on: September 11, 2021, 05:23:08 am »

I'm testing JRiver-28 (Linux version) to see if I might want to use it as some part of a new DLNA audio system, or maybe just as a separate player with a remote control (like panel or gizmo). Obviously, this will involve adding some rules to the firewall (in my case UFW/GUFW).

On the forum and wiki, I've seen it suggested to open just port 52199, but some users have indicated that was insufficient. On the other extreme, all ports 52100 to 52200 and 1900 have been advised, but that range seems likely to open a large majority that are never needed.

Is it documented anywhere what ports or ranges are actually employed (edit: by JRiver) for different uses?

Thanks,
Kev

You need 1900 open for UDP mono-cast and multi-cast. And 52199 for TCP HTTP.

Many thanks Andrew, that is superb - exactly the info I was trying to find.

I used JRiver many years ago, but not with DLNA so this is interesting to try. It is also nice to see some of the new features that have been added since then too, such as cloudplay.  So I've decided to update my licence and give it a decent run; I'm sure it'll get used in some form or other.

Cheers,
Kev
