Hi,

How would I set up the JRiver Id to control it just by smartphone (without an external network).
JRemote app is installed.

Did I miss something in the manual?

You'd (at least) need something that the Id and the phone could connect to in order to get an IP address via DHCP.  Google might help.

Hmm, I was assuming, that ad-hoc means it works without additional components, servers etc

Google :"The network is ad hoc because it does not rely on a pre-existing infrastructure, such as routers in wired networks or access points in managed (infrastructure) wireless networks."

So far, under JRID Menu item "13" I can create an ad-hoc network, set its name and properties.
My iPhone then finds this network and connects to it via WLAN.

JRIDs Network Router is shown as 192.168.254.254
The iPhone is then 192.168.254.58

The last step would be to have JRemote connect to JRID by pressing the green JRrmote button "Add a new server".
That was not succesful, neither with access key nor with IP address (which one would be required ?)

The purpose of this is: Run JRID as standalone music source in a demo room. Controlled just by iPhone via ad-hoc network. No extra Wifi router involved......if that is possible?!?

The Id isn't designed to be a wireless host in an ad hoc network.

When it doesn't have a default route, after a minute or two it will go into wireless configuration mode showing up as an access point as you saw with the 192.168.254.254 address.
This allows you to configure it's wireless settings with a phone to connect to an existing wireless network without connecting a keyboard and monitor to the Id.

You could configure the ethernet statically to create a wired network not connected to the outside world but you'd still need some kind of accesspoint to connect to that network to use your phone on.

Got it running!
Now itīs possible to control the JRiver Id just with an iPhone.
The JRemote app allows full access and even volume control.

The setup was with Iphone access point activated. This network was found by the Id.
-enter password for iPhones WLAN access point
-make the IP static (eg 172.20.10.2 with subnet mask 255.240.0.0 router 172.20.10.1)
-once this connection is established, open JRemote app
-add a new server
-enter the IP of the Id (eg 172.20.10.2)

PS: However, this is not ideal , as the IPhone WLAN is "blocked" exclusively for the JRID use.
Furthermore, older IPhones / Ipads do not allow to establish access points.

Just wondering, if there would be a future possibility to connect JRemote and the JRiver Id via Bluetooth?
