Yes re-installed and it seems to work now... how could installing Monterey have caused this?

Reinstalled, all good now as far as I can tell.

I wonder if it's a privacy permissions issue.
Perhaps something got added in Monterey that reinstalling MC expanded the permissions of in some way.
There have been some expansion of things that require explicit permission.

The search box in top right does not accept inputting method, such as Cangjie and Japanese.
For Cangjie, the character component is typed directly without the usual underline temp mode, i.e. even if a proper character component sequence is typed, the input box only show the character component sequence but not the target words.
For Japanese, only English character is shown but not the target Japanese words. It is the same situation as in Cangjie.
Tested with the past 3 version of macOS JRiver 28 build, and macOS 11.6 and macOS 12.0.1.
