My understaning (please correct me if I'm wrong) is MC 9 won't be able to set replay gain consistently for an entire album in its audio analysis. I'm basing this on a comment made in the "control from other apps" thread:
Since it doesn't appear that we'll be getting Album Gain, how about adding in a way to turn Replay Gain on\off to this?
My understanding is that a track that is quiet relative to the library as a whole would thus be boosted volumistically (relatively speaking). If true, that's a bummer. But all is not lost! I think I can author a plugin or some external utility to set this straight. Please let me know if I'm on the right track:
Given a complete audio analysis of a library, all the gains are set to regulate the volume of all tracks in the library. In order to have consistency within an album, I think the following algorithm would be decent, but I'd like feedback
:
1. Calculate a weighted mean replay gain (weighted by track length).
2. Apply this mean replay gain to every track on the album.
Thanks,
Stuart
