PI won't respond

I am using MC 26 on WIN controlling a Linux MC 26 on a Pi.  Things had been stable.  Was out of town for 2 weeks and upon return I get a "Something went wrong with playback" error when using the standard set up.  The Pi is being used headless, so it's a bit of a pain to interogate it, but it shows up on the WIN setup and all the files are there, they simply won't play.
