Moving Library to a new hard disk
« on: March 19, 2003, 09:32:37 am »

I was typing a reply at the same time as a topic was locked - whilst I dont consider myself an expert I wouldnt want my words of wisdom to be lost :)

Nila

I recently had to do this (although I only got a 120Gb drive - boo!).

Best way as far as I can see is to use Tools/Rename Files from Properties in your current library and set the paths to your new drive. What Ive realised is that I cant find a way to move my cover art over in a similar way, because Find and Replace doesnt include the cover art filename tag (in 9.0.129). You need to move your cover art to your new location and set the track images location in Options/File Naming and Location. Then select all files/Properties, choose Tools/Remove to get rid of all the image files and then do a get cover art, searching offline.

FWIW thats what I did - if theres a better way Id like to hear it for future information. But for now, Im free to rip away again.

To move from one disk to another simply do the following:

1) Select all files
2) Goto to Properties>Filename
3) Select Move/Copy Disk File
4) Select New destination folder
5) Select either Move or copy!

That's all. It worked perfectly for me and it is pretty easy to use. I moved all my files from my old disk to a new larger disk in less than 5 minutes!

That was one of the functions missing about one year ago, but has been implemented since then in a proper way.

Nila:

before you make new suggestions all the time, you may learn what MC offers by default anyway! You could have saved a lot of time and trouble this way. Or you could have asked here!

Jaguu :-
I have .sfv files and other files in the folders as well that aren't dealt with by MJ.
I need to move these too which is why I didn't want to just right click on my files and choose: Tools/Move - I was aware of this option but wanted the original folders and all their files moved too.
The best way to do this was to use a file manager (explorer or in my case Win Commander) and then just get MJ to point to the new files.
