Changes to wrong audio driver [Solved]
« on: April 09, 2022, 09:11:23 pm »

I’ll turn off my system after watching video….. Yamaha receiver and Sony OLED. When i go back to watch again JRiver audio has changed to an audio driver that doesn’t work. No video will play at all which is how it become aware. I put it back on the receivers WASAPI driver and all is good. The pc is on the correct audio. Just JRiver has changed.

The PC, receiver and OLED are all new…. Installed this week replacing my old system. Yesterday was first full day after most setup  adjustments were completed to the system. This has happen three times in a row today. What can i do to prevent this from occurring?

Thx

Same problem as this one https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,132678.msg919614/boardseen.html#new ?

My system can lose audio device when i switch TV back on (PC always on ... just switch off TV) .. need to run Windows troubleshooting to regain it back (or restart PC) ... this only happens under certain TV settings ... did not have time to pinpoint which setting caused it yet

When this happens ... other players like VLC and MPC-HC also fail to play sound

In any case, it has nothing to do with JRiver ... problem lies in Windows and way it reestablishes HDMI handshake

Thanks for replying. This is helpful. But If this was the case i would expect the pc not to have found the correct device too. But each time the pc is locked in the proper device. It sees the audio device. JRiver switched to the wrong one and has not switched back.

This is probably an HDMI problem.  There are devices you can purchase that may fix the problem.  Try a Google search.

I’ve had HDMI issues but they always impacted the pc’s ability to see the sound device. The pc see’s it just fine. If the pc is getting the correct edid(?) info why would j River not?

When this happens ... if you restart MC (instead of changing manually to correct driver), does it get a correct audio device?

I will try a reboot to see what it does. How can I disable a driver?

Thank you

While the system is on…… SONY OLED & Yamaha receiver, i rebooted the pc. JRiver did not change the driver. It remained on the incorrect one. The pc itself however still was on the correct sound device as it was prior to rebooting. I manually changed the audio in JRiver and all played correctly. All other ideas are welcome!

By the way this is a windows 10 pc…..

Ok….. after a bit more HDMI testing it appears it is a power on sequence issue. My pc is on all of the time. I don’t have it go to sleep. If i power up the receiver first and let it boot, then power the tv up, JRiver correctly selects the output device. It’s done this 6 times successfully. When powering up the tv first i get the wrong device. Hopefully this resolved the problem.
