I get this a LOT.

What does it mean & how do I stop it from happening?

I've tried a complete TV Reset to no avail.

If the message reflects the error correctly, it means MC failed to run TV in non-time-shifting mode.  It failed during DirectShow graph-building stage.  Non-time-shifting graph may also be involved during channel scanning or OTA EPG scanning.

As you can see, the channel scan returns nothing to view. Without a channel scan I can't use MC for TV at all as there are no channels.

As my signature shows I have two SiliconeDust HD HomeRun Quad tuners with a 2-way splitter & amped antenna. (Just a little reminder about the usefulness of signatures.)

They both work well.

I was doing a channel scan with a full reset when this happened. I have run into this problem many times in the past but have always managed to get out of it and finally complete a normal channel scan. Not this time. I've tried re-running channel scan every way I can think of, but nothing works to stop the error message.

One other thing I forgot to mention... TV runs just fine using the SiliconeDust TV software with the same setup, so again the tuners are fine.

I've also tried uninstalling the SiliCone Dust Windows software in case there might be a conflict running two TV programs in Windows. Re-booted the computer... same error dialog when doing a channel scan.

I also have the HD HomeRun Setup set for JRiver Media Center. I've also tried it in the Default position... same problem
 
Would a log help?

Signatures aren't reliable.

It's SiliconDust, not Silicone.

Try taking the splitter out of your setup, just to test.  They reduce the signal strength.

The SiliconDust Config GUI shows 100% for all 3 signal strength indicators for nearly all channels & the 2 that don't are in the green.

Before this problem it was working just fine with the same exact setup, plus it works nicely using the SiliconDust Window software.

I will try your suggestion.

Tried your suggestion of scanning without the splitter. Tried these...
1: No splitter, with antenna amp, first tuner connected by itself, the second tuner totally disconnected, rebooted computer... same error dialog.
2: No splitter, with antenna amp, second tuner connected by itself, the first tuner totally disconnected, rebooted computer... same error dialog.
3: No splitter, no antenna amp, first tuner connected by itself, the second tuner totally disconnected, rebooted computer... same error dialog.

The HD HomeRun Config.GUI was showing 100% for all tests both with & without the antenna amp so there is plenty of signal. I get 135 channels here in the Houston, TX area.

Also ran same 4 tests on the HD HomeRun Windows TV software & all ran well.

By "Network tuners" are you talking about next line down? That is the normal way HD HomeRun tuners are set up.

I have two tuners only, both HD HomeRun Quad set up on ethernet through my xfinity router. The first tuner goes to one ethernet port on the router & the second tuner output goes to another ethernet port on the router.

Both MC & HD HomeRun Windows TV see them as 8 tuners total.

Think I see where you got the impression of "a non-Silicondust tuner".
The second tuner listed in my signature had the complete model number listed which may have looked like a third tuner whereas there are actually only two HD HomeRun tuners.

I have modified the signature & removed the extra data.

Did a re-install over the original thinking it may restore any missing or damaged files. Same error dialog upon TV channel scan.

Completely un-installed MC. Did a clean install & restored my library with settings. Am now getting this rather mean dialog... it repeats over & over again every few seconds.

We have a lot of SiliconDust users (I'm one) and we're not seeing this problem, so it's almost certain to be configuration on your machine.

Anything new on your network?  Router, for example.

Looks like they were already installed (I think they get installed when I installed the HD HomeRun for windows Software). The only options available after re-installing them were things like repair, remove, etc. I did the repair, rebooted the computer & am now getting this error dialog...

It might also be permissions.

* All main Firewall settings are on... same error dialog.
* Reset the Firewall to default... same error dialog.
* Set MC & MC Extenders to Private... same error dialog.

We have a lot of SiliconDust users (I'm one) and we're not seeing this problem, so it's almost certain to be configuration on your machine.
I hear, you but this has been going on for my last 5 computers & through 3 versions of Windows. It's getting to be rather old. I've had none of these problems in any other TV software that I have used. Most run without any major events acting up. Channel scan on all of them is usually flawless.

Silicondust software appears to be having problems.  I just tried to install it and it asked me to reboot, and after I did it, it started again going through the installation a second time, and requires a reboot.  After the second reboot, it went at it again, but this time, it could not find the installer file it created.  So I quit the process.  Now DirectShow based TV does not work for me either, getting the same errors as you did.

If HDHomeRun is messed up like we believe there is little evidence on the HDHomeRun Forum. I searched for Install, DirectShow & a couple of others but nothing came up.

If you did not report any problems, I would not have gone to their site and downloaded and tried to install their latest installer.  Maybe we are the first ones to try?

We need to let them know.

In the meantime you can try setting up DMS channels.  My DMS channels still work.  What does not work is bda DirectShow support.

Reported the problem to the HDHomeRun Forum but could not figure out how to post an image showing the error dialogs. Left them a message asking for assistance & am waiting for a reply.

I found an old Silicondust installer on my hard drive and installed it.  It restored my computer to working order.

You should go to Windows settings and uninstall the newer version first.  Then you should be able to install the older version.

It also appears that they have pulled that installer from their Support/downloads page.  Hopefully they are on fixing the issue.
