HDMI video signal Triggering "Game Mode" in MC29
« on: June 19, 2022, 07:05:19 am »

Hello,

I noticed MC29 enabling Game Mode on my TV when playing video. Thought this might be a mistake as the playback is not right when Game Mode is enabled so would like to see if this can be fixed. I am on Windows 10 64bit. I used MC20 before and didn't see this happen on that version.

Thanks!

My Setup is:
Panasonic VT60
Pioneer SC-LX87 amp (use USB audio)
Nvidia GTX970 4GB Graphics card (HDMi direct to TV)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4570 CPU @ 3.20GHz

I don't think MC does that.

I've noticed MC20, MPC Classic being ok & VLC/MC29 when running a video and going full screen the TV for some reason enables Game Mode. I don't know if its a misinterpretation of the TV possibly but because it is ok in some players there must be some change that it has picked up on.

Will try to see if I can figure it out as its not possible to get accurate playback if I don't find find out what is causing the TV interpret the incoming signal that way.

Its typically the graphics driver trying to "guess" the right mode.

For NVIDIA you can override it in the NVIDIA control panel, it should be under Display -> Adjust desktop color settings -> Content type reported to the display.

I also had seen this issue a lot, but only with JRiver. Other software I had back then (e.g. PowerDVD, MPC-BE) never triggered that. Overriding this in the nVidia control panel wouldn't survive a reboot or relaunch of JRiver. The only thing that helped me was to turn off the content type recognition in the TV.

The NVIDIA setting is permanent.

It would've been nice if it were, and I won't dispute that it might be for most, but unfortunately it wasn't on my end. Even setting it with an admin account didn't survive a reboot. Once JRiver ran, it was reset. And if it's the same for the OP, then he could look into disabling it on the TV side. Then, it won't matter anymore.
