MP3 Conversion issue
« on: July 16, 2022, 06:30:25 pm »

Hi

I am having trouble with my main server since upgrade to 29

Normally I rip to FLAC files. Then once I have adjusted my metadata I convert a copy to mp3 for use in my car.

If i try to do this the conversion just says failed for each track in the details window

My server is so old it is running the 32-bit version!!!

I tried converting to different directories including the local drives does not work.
I tried all 4 encoder options from vbr to custom for the mp3 encoder but does not work
I have tried conversion of different flacs which have been converted in the past but it does not make a difference
If i select a different encoder format ie APE it converts fine
I have reinstalled jriver mediacenter over existing install - no change
I have upgraded to 29.0.74 no change
I tried conversion on a machine where I have the 64 bit version installed and that worked fine
I ran the older 28 version still installed on the pc and that works fine no issue at all

Does anyone have any suggestions. I have run media center on this pc as a server for more than 10 years and never had a problem
As I said if I revert back to 28 iot works fine

Thanks

Alan

Hi No Ideas?

I have just upgraded to 29.0.81  with hope it would fix it, but no joy.

Version 28 is still working

Thanks

I've just tried, and conversions seem to be working just fine over here.

Can you post a log?

It looks like the MP3 encoder cannot be installed. I see that you are still on Windows 7, first you should make sure that all Windows Updates are installed.

Second, make sure TLS 1.2 is enabled, you can do this through Internet Explorer:

- open Internet Explorer 11
- click on the 'gear' icon in the upper right
- select Internet Options
- click on the Advanced tab
- scroll down to the last section Security
- check the box at the bottom of the list for Use TLS 1.2
- select Apply
- select OK

Thank you Hendrik

The Windows update appears to be broken now. I presume due to support ended for windows 7. Not sure if there is somewhere you can manually update to the last released updates, please let me know if you know there is?

However good news !!!!  Turning on the TLS 1.2 in ie11 worked and conversions are now occurring.

I have for a long time been thinking I should upgrade this pc, but have not. The machine just sits in a corner and acts as my JRiver music server only and never misses a beat so I have not bothered. I guess this is a reminder to look at upgrading it

Thank you so much for your assistance and support
