Hello,
First time posting in any forum for any reason, so please be patient with me!
I have been using a trial version of MC 23 for the past 30 days.  I installed it on an old Windows laptop running Vista and I guess I installed MC23 because it was the version that would install.
Yesterday I purchased a license for Windows using a different laptop, assuming that I could use the resulting code on my MC23 version.  Now I see that I cannot.  Is there a way for me to change my purchase to this older version?  I see there are options for upgrading to a new version, but what I want to do is downgrade.  MC23 is working great and I don't want to lose it!  I even tried to buy a license for MC23, but it's no longer available.  Help please!

Licenses for old versions aren't sold.

Please download MC29.0.81 or higher.

Hi,
Thanks for your quick reply!
So, if my computer can't run the latest version, am I out of luck to keep using this?  Seems like old versions shouldn't be available for free download if they can't continue to be used after 30 days?

Those old version links are for those who previously purchased those older versions of Media Center so they can still download and use it, but of course it requires a license purchased while that old version of Media Center was being sold in order for that old version to work.

You can try installing MC29 on Windows Vista, but even if it installs it likely won't work correctly (and video features almost certainly won't work correctly) as support for Windows Vista was dropped several years ago. It's recommended to use Windows 10 or Windows 11 at this point (Windows 8.1 likely still works, but extended support from Microsoft ends in less than 6 months for Windows 8.1 so I personally wouldn't recommend using that).

Yes, unfortunately it won't install at all.  I'm disappointed, because this old computer is working just fine otherwise and feeds into a lovely stereo that I'm very happy with.  I was previously using a combination of old iTunes and foobar, but I love using JRiver and having all my files in the same spot with all the great features available.  Can I get a refund? Or is it possible to send me a registration code that will work with this older version?

You're using a 15 year old OS.  It's really time to update.  It's not that hard to do.

Yes, unfortunately it won't install at all.

Did you try running the installer in compatibility mode? It is probably just that the installer checks for a supported Windows version. I have no idea if MC29 will actually run on Vista (probably no one does), but it should be possible to get it to install, at least.

It is also worth mentioning that you can almost certainly upgrade that machine to Windows 7 at least (and that would be far less likely to be troublesome than Vista).
