MCC for "Clear Selection" in Panes View?
« on: September 03, 2022, 06:01:04 pm »

I use Panes views a lot.  They are one of the most powerful and versatile features of MC.  It would be helpful to be able to clear the Panes selections with a hot key.  Right now this is done by clicking on text that appears in the tab where the Panes view is.  It says "Clear Selection".

Can an MCC be added for this?  If so, I can then easily map a keyboard shortcut to it.

Thanks for reading.

There was actually already an MCC for this.

I'll add a keyboard shortcut for a coming build.  The hardest part about that is finding one that's still available!

Here's the history:
NEW: Added a keyboard shortcut (Ctrl;Shift;E) to reset the pane selection (MCC 26023,-1).

Thanks.

How did I miss this?  I guess because I was searching the MCC documentation for "clear" and not just for "pane" or "reset".  Darn it.

I just tested it and it works just fine with my own key mapping.  Cool!

I'm probably going to make a macro that does 3 things at once:

1.  Clears the Pane selection (what we just did).
2.  Clears the search box.
3.  Refreshes the view.

That would give me a "super pane reset/refresh", which I like to do in some views where I'm looking at things in a certain way.

Thanks for the help Matt.  :)

I've built my macro, which works pretty well.  I'm going it with a combination of MCCs and hot keys.  I'm only using hot keys because I can't figure out an MCC that will clear the search box.  Instead I'm doing "control-f <escape> <escape>". That works, but it feels hacky.

Is there an MCC for clear search box?  I mean the search box in the upper right of any standard view.

Thanks,
Brian.

Next build:
NEW: Added a clear search MCC (MCC_CLEAR_SEARCH_CONTROL / 22042).

Cheers :)

Evening Matt, if this file (http://www.jriver.com/DevZone/MCCommands.h) could be brought up to date I will try and make time to place the additions in the wiki page.

Thanks Marko!  Just uploaded the latest copy.  And uploaded again after fixing the tabs.

Done. I've only updated the actual commands tables. "Defines" downwards was some way out of my depth so I left well alone :)

Just got the opportunity to test the new MCC 22042 to clear the search box.  It works but it's a little odd.

* In a panes view when you use it, it leaves you focused in the search box.  It would be nice to have the option to not have you focused there.
* If you run it in Playing Now, it mostly works.  But if you press the hot key (calling the MCC) several times, it cycles between the Play Doctor box and the upper right search box.  Worse, once you've done this, it breaks the clearing action in any Panes views in other tabs.  If you then try to do a clear in a Panes view, it ignores the "clear" and instead switches to the playing now tab and does the action there.  It's almost like it's "stuck" on that tab.  You have to close and re-open MC to reset it.
