Net. Framework windows update necessary?
« on: September 23, 2022, 07:08:06 am »

I wonder if this Net. framework that always follows larger windows update are important to JRiver? I read on the web that many applications use this? So is it important and is it used by JRiver? I ask because many times I get poorer performance/micro stutter like head turn hand gestures and much other rapid movement. And I noticed that after large windows update one have to do a new windows update search and often this Net frame work 4.8.... is poping up and I have to do this manually it does not pop automatically at least not right after the update.  Why is this update so important because it comes up often after larger updates.

In the most simple terms, the .NET Framework is a feature that can be installed in Windows that some apps require, but Media Center doesn't need it like Jim said. It's installed and updated via Windows Update - when patch tuesday happens and Microsoft releases new Windows updates you'll notice updates for the .NET Framework and other parts of Windows released at the same time. It's important to allow updates to the .NET Framework (and Windows in general) as they're mainly security updates.

Very likely either Windows itself decided to install it or an app running on your system requires it, I'm going to guess it's probably the latter. Apps that require the .NET Framework won't run without it.

Hi tkolsto;

Not letting Net. framework run may be causing more problems than if you simply let it run for all updates.

I have been allowing it to run for every update for many years & have never experienced any problems with it (although I have often wondered about it) 🤷‍♂️.

As all computers are different, your experience may be different from mine, but it seems to be totally harmless with MC, sooo... GO FOR IT 😉.

Try uninstalling software that you don't use.
