Do you use external volume control like a pre-amp?
Depending on how volume attenuation is handled, physical, analog attenuators can drift and there can be channel disparity .

No need for caps.

Do you apply DSP on files in the Audio Conversion Options when converting?

That's what I lean towards here, knowing the context.
Although perhaps it's an issue with the iPad? Does this happen if you say, watch a video on youtube?

I do add DSP into the recordings and a little equalization. it's almost like they don't want me to add anything to the recordings and make a perfect copy. if I use the room correction it sounds fine when I listen to it live on my computer speakers but when I convert it and put it on the IPOD it always sounds like the left side is higher. I've been using J. Rivers for many years and have always noticed this. I just put up with it but would like to find a solution.

If you use Room Correction DSP when converting for ipod it could definitely do that depending on your settings. I would suggest a test where you convert file with conversion DSP disabled and then listen it with your ipod to see if that fixed the problem. If it does then the problem lies in your conversion DSP settings

NOTE: DSP for conversion is in the conversion settings so it is not the same DSP checkmark as for playback

what I don't understand is that the room conversion doesn't work in the DSP for playback like the effects, equalizer and all of the other settings in DSP. I can add a sub, change the environment, raise the level, add equalization, etc. but when I change the room correction to center the music THAT only works in LIVE PLAYBACK.
