OK, I was talking with a 30-something good friend of mine over a beer (or two) a couple of days ago. I will say that he is a "techie" in that he understands computers and software. That's the degree he earned in college.
We both enjoy music, and eventually the conversation came around to my digitization of the albums that occupy my house with me..
He asked me a question that took me aback, to the point that it took me a bit to be able to respond.
His question was: ~OK, I understand how CDs work, with the laser reading the pits on the disc and making music from that; but how do vinyl records work? ~
He knew and understood how the music was conveyed from a CD to his ears, but he had zero understanding of how the grooves of a vinyl album generated music.
Long story story, we talked, and talked.
And talked.
But eventually he understood.
But wow...
