Author Topic: DSD256 stops @ 12:46 - might be 2GB file limit - with Sonore Rendu  (Read 998 times)

I'm playing back DSD256 and this has happened on several files. If they are longer than 12:46 playback will stop. Nothing beyond 12:46 can be played. I have a NAS that's on my LAN with all the files. I'm using JRiver MC 30 for catalog and playback, I'm sending the signal to a Sonore Signature Rendu via fibre and a media converter to ethernet. Then it's I2S to a PS Audio DirectStream DAC. Pretty sure it's not the DAC but having a tough time trying to tell if it's a MC problem or a renderer problem. Any ideas?

I tried a different Sonore Renderer to a different PS Audio DAC, same issue so I really think this must be some buffer somewhere in MC. Is it?

Test without the media convertor and Ethernet.

The different renderer and different DAC was also without the fiber and converter. Still had same issue.

Okay - next clue, this seems to have something to do with 2GB files (actually a little over) I see there was a thread for Audirvana that can't catalog any file over 2GB+ for some reason. There was no resolution on that as of Dec 2022. So I'm wondering if we have a file size issue somewhere. I've also found at least a half dozen other examples over 12:40-ish they all stop short on play back.

Try with a local file on the PC as opposed to the NAS.

I tried 2 different local files on the PC in my home directory. Both stopped short at 12:40.

What type of hardware is MC running on? What OS(es)?

And you're using the amd64 (64-bit) version of Media Center 30, correct? Can you post a screenshot of the audio path while playing back a track? Audio path will appear as popup when hovering over the icon to the bottom left of the search bar (depending on skin being used, it'll appear different, but in this screenshot example of mine it's the cog that's blue).

I played a >2G DSD256 file on MC30 (on an uptodate debian testing system) and it played the whole thing without issue (~15min long, 2578018396 bytes size), audio device is just the local audio output (via pipewire)

Wait, what audio output are you using? Please post a screenshot of MC's Options > Audio section.

My guess: Memory playback is causing this. Turn it off if it's enabled.

given that you're streaming, you'd also have to show how that part of MC is configured

Weird shot in the dark, try going into MC's Options > Media Network section (like in your first picture) and check the Disable audio buffer to disk (for low powered systems) box and try restarting MC and retesting this. You could also try the video one too, if you use MC for video and see what happens.

Also in MC's Options > Media Network a screenshot of Add or configure DLNA servers... and the DLNA Servers dialog would help too. In the DLNA Servers make sure the Advanced part is toggled so all the settings there are visible too.

Since it appears you are playing to a DLNA renderer, only the DLNA server and controller settings will make any difference.
You might try enabling the DoP switch in the advanced audio settings.
You should also make sure that the controller options for the zone you are playing to (right-click on the zone and check the DLNA controller options) are using the DLNA server instance that you've configured.

If that doesn't work, there is a possibility that your DLNA rendering device has a 2GB limit on files streamed to it over the network.

I tried the DoP switch in the advanced settings and the result was no sound as the file looked like it was playing.
I did double check and verify that the DLNA server instance was selected for the zone I am playing to.
I also suspect the renderer may have a limit, I have contacted Jesus over at Sonore. I'll update with any new info.
Also updated to MC 30.0.47
BTW when it plays it sounds fantastic.........

SOLVED.

I tried a 3rd renderer this time a microRendu and set it up as DLNA device and streamed the exact same settings as I had been using before. No issues (other than it's a mR and not a full sized Rendu - oh well) I'll pursue this with Jesus on the Sonore support page to see if this can be fixed somehow. I want to thank all that chimed in with support, help, and ideas. This area of technology is mystery science enuf glad I got your assistance.
