What steps are going thru to import files? What is the source of the files that won't import? Downloaded? Ripped from your own CDs? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling MJ? What are your system specs?

It's hard to say what the problem might be...more details are always helpful.

It's a holiday weekend, so there probably isn't anyone from J River in the office to read your post and offer any help.

jasonod

maybe you should use the option to remove missing files first.

file, library, update library

this topic relatest to my postings a couple of weeks ago.  i've become so frustrated that i just set this aside and didn't deal with it, but i hope to solve this problem soon.  here is the lowdown:

my soundcard, videocard, and i was told part of my motherboard literally melted down due to overheating.  but my hard drive, g, that had all of my mp3, wav, etc, was okay.  this was put into my new machine, so i ended up with 2 hard drives.  i now have file paths that show i have files on both drives, but when i try to import, i cannot do it.  i cannot even play these songs, and instead get the error msg "select file(s) to play".  the only thing i can think of is that all of these files are corrupt, b/c not even windows media player will play them.  any advice??

It sounds like it is very likely that some of your files became corrupt. Have you run Windows Scandisk (on the Thorough setting) on your old drive to make sure the file system is intact and that there are no bad/corrupt surface areas?

I would also say you should do a library update, as KingSparta suggested (make sure to check the Remove files which do not exit... box). It sounds like you may also have entries in your MJ library that point to files that have either moved or no longer exist.

i've done the update library thing.  this is a silly question, but how do i run scandisk on windows xp?  i have a feeling all of my mp3s are corrupt, but i'd like to make sure so i can drop this and move on.

Well, I'm still using Win98 so I don't know about XP, but I would imagine that there is a shortcut somewhere on Start/Programs.
