Playing My Library outside of my Network Through JRemote
« on: January 28, 2023, 09:01:07 pm »

Hello, I have been a long time supporter of JRiver and it takes me a while to figure out things. One of those is how to listen to my music through the main server with my Iphone. I know there is a way but am having quite a challenge figuring it out. I am using a Iphone x to listen. I also have the newest version of the JRemote. I enter JRiver panel into the search bar it brings up a window that I can add my Access key. I enter the access key and i get the "Library server not found for access key.
When I put my ip address in the search bar nothing happens.
I have the latest build of the JRemote

Typo in the Access Key?

There is a test available in the Media Network settings.

Thanks for that info. I have double checked if the key has been entered correctly and it has. I tried to locate the media network test in the MC 30 but can’t locate it. The other question I have is should I be able to listen outside my Network with my JRemote. Thanks for your help

Yes you should absolutely be able to listen on JRemote outside your network, but this relies on JRemote being able to access your MC Server.

To do that outside your home network your internet router will need Port Forwarding enabled and configured for the MC Server or use a VPN in order for your MC Server to be visible on the internet.

If you search the forums for Port Forwarding or VPN you will find quite a bit of information.

A good place to start is the Networking topic on the Wiki: https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Network_Access

I think I wrote it when I was 68.

It's not that big a deal.  Just read it until you understand.  Ask if you need to.

Don’t give up, I’m 57 and got it working this past week. Keep asking questions until you get it.

Hello, thanks for all the previous info
I set up port forwarding 52199 on my windows 11 and allowed connection to my iphone and my iphone still doesnt play through panel or JRemote outside of my network. I have researched every single article i could find. Is it because i am using a iphone? this is so frustrating. There has to be an easier way I have carefully read each and everything i can find. Maybe you could pretend i am an idiot and simplify it for me.
I even considered paying someone to do it  ;D
How to connect you Iphone x to the media play for dummies

Thanks everyone
after this i gotta get my Id that has been sitting around for about three years hooked up

I’m using an iPhone outside of network so it’s definitely not just that. What is the response when you try to play?

The error when I go on Panel is Safari cannot connect to the server. Thanks for your reply

Your iPhone should work fine, are you using your Access Key to try and connect?

If you are only using your home IP address JRemote will not be able to see the server once you are outside your network.

Yes, I have put in the access key.
I also tried going to add a proxy port adding my cell phones I.P. address.
Should I try adding my I.P. address somewhere from my phone onto the server?

Your phone’s IP address is going to change once you leave your home network as well.

Try allowing access on that port from any host.

Have you:

-Turned on SSL (in Media Center's "Media Network" settings)
-Set up a username and password (also in "Media Network" settings)
-Confirmed the IP address that your service provider has assigned to your router, and entered that into the "Global Access" field in JRemote?
-Entered the username and password into the JRemote app on your iPhone?

I don't know that it is required for connection, but I also entered my computer's MAC address into the setting of JRemote

I tried all of that more than once and none of it worked even opened a new port but that didn’t work either. I really would like to get rid of my streaming services and just use this but am not successful at getting it to work. Is there anything else you can suggest?

Turn off wi-fi on your iPhone so we know we are using mobile data and outside of your home network.

When you open JRemote what is the exact message you get?

Press the little i next to your server and tell us what is on the next screen.

You have also mentioned that you entered “Panel” into the search bar and that makes me wonder if you are using Safari on your iPhone instead of JRemote? Let’s be sure you’re opening the JRemote app on your iphone. I have a feeling you are trying to put your key into Panel (Safari) instead of the JRemote app. Don't use search.

Look at these pics for getting into the JRemote settings

Read through Network Access on the wiki one more time.  You're getting close, but the port folwarding is not done on Windows.  It needs to be done on your router, which is usually on your cable modem.

The Access Key topic on the wiki might also help.

You can test your connection from the Media Network settings in MC options.
